in Tonight on the Tube

24 Twenty Four Jack Bauer T-shirt BlackI can’t wait for the new season of Monk to start July 7th on USA along with its new companion show Psych cause Friday night is pretty bleak right now. Tonight is a good example of that bleakness as there isn’t much on that catches the eye. As of next Wednesday when the new Blade series hits Spike there will be at least one scripted show on each night Sunday through Friday. That is good news for all of us that just can’t take all this so-called reality show crap that fills the airways over the summer. Well unless Psych and Blade completely blows like Windfall. Any shows you are looking forward to this summer that hasn’t arrived yet?

Prime Picks

24 (FOX): Repeat. Two episodes air tonight as Day 5 continues with Jack trying to follow up on leads he has garnered while still being wanted in connection with the Palmer assassination.

NUMB3RS (CBS): Repeat. A card counting scheme is uncovered in this fun episode with a cameo by Annie Duke.

Solid Selections

Treasure Hunters (NBC): Repeat. Another shot to see what this Amazing Race meets National Treasure show is all about.

America’s Got Talent (NBC): Repeat. Get another look and see if there is any talent on this is very Gong Show-esque show as people do wacky stuff just to get on TV. Runs two hours.

Cable Choices

Take Home Chef (TLC): New. Who couldn’t use a little help in the kitchen from a professional chef to create that special meal?
Take Home Chef (TLC): New. Homemade tortilla chips and porterhouse steaks sound good to me.

What Not to Wear (TLC): New. A woman from New York finds out she needs to tone it down a bit.

Monk (USA): Repeat. The second of two episodes that air tonight is where Monk figures out how an astronaut killed his wife while in space. The one previous, which is in the shows new timeslot, is where Monk gets stuck in a traffic jam.

Other Options

  • Seinfeld (TBS): Repeat. Marlee Matlin guests as a deaf woman with the ability to read lips and George wants to use her ability to see why his ex dumped him. The scene of Jerry and George discussing this while trying to hide their lips is classic.
  • The Soup (E!): New. Clip show of past episodes so it is really a sort of new episode. Runs 30 minutes.

Sports Notes

  • ESPN has two World Cup Soccer games starting early.
  • ESPN2 has Friday Night Fights with a light middleweight fight with two World Cup games starting early in the morning.
