Tonight on the Tube: The Winner, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters and The Dresden Files

Storm Front (The Dresden Files, Book 1)Tonight is the first night of the new NBC Sunday night lineup. It will start off with Grease but then Deal or No Deal has the second hour of primetime slot and then The Apprentice, in the old Crossing Jordan timeslot. Crossing Jordan will now be on Wednesday nights between Friday Night Lights and Medium. Also, tonight FOX premieres the new show The Winner with two episodes, which you can read more about below.

The Simpsons (FOX): New. Lisa becomes a tutor and Bart tries telling the other kids the cafeteria is haunted.
The Winner (FOX): Series Premiere. A guy, Glen Abbott, decides it is time to grow up and become a man when his former crush moves across the street from he and his parents. She is now divorced with a young son. Glen is 32 with the emotional maturity of just under the son of the woman he wants to impress and win over. The story is told from a future Glenn, who is now a rich and successful man, about how he finally started to mature. You might call it How I Finally Grew Up While Pursuing Your Mother. It is stars Rob Corddry who you may have seen previously as a correspondent on The Daily Show. You can see another new episode after Family Guy.

Desperate Housewives (ABC): New. Rex Van De Kamp pops up as the narrator of this episode where unintended pregnancies and surprise visitors from the past visit Wisteria Lane. Runs 61 minutes.

Brothers & Sisters (ABC): New. The arrival of William and Holly’s child, which we met at the end of the last new episode, shakes up the Walker family. Emily VanCamp (Everwood) plays her. Should be fun.

Solid Selections

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC): New. A family who had a plane crash into their home in 2006 gets a new one built by Ty and the team.

Cold Case (CBS): New. To solve a case, the team must find out about the maternity homes that hid women in the 1950s and 60s who got pregnant and were not married.

Without a Trace (CBS): New. Elena’s daughter is abducted and Jack sends Danny and Martin to track her down while the rest of them search for a female tourist that has gone missing.

Cable Choices

Emeril Live (Food Network): New. Emeril cooks up some kicked up shrimp recipes.

The Dresden Files (Sci Fi): New. Someone is the “Soul Beneficiary” tonight. Nice play on words. Plays again later.

Battlestar Galactica (Sci Fi): New. Kara looks like she might be cracking up and Lee could be in trouble because of it. Plays again later.

Other Options

  • Dirt (FX): Repeat. The “This Is Not Your Father’s Hostage Situation” episode from last Tuesday replays.
  • Iron Chef America (Food Network): New. Iron Chef Mario Batali gets a partner and they are challenged by another duo.

  • ABC has Arena Football followed by the Los Angeles Lakers at the Phoenix Suns in NBA action.
  • CBS has a college basketball tripleheader that begins with Kentucky at Florida and ends with Duke at North Carolina.
  • ESPN has NASCAR racing early and NBA action with the Utah Jazz at the New Orleans Hornets.
