Tonight on the Tube: How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, Heroes, Journeyman, The Closer & Samantha Who?

October Road Season One on DVDTonight, ABC has the final performance show of Dancing With the Stars, Samantha Who? a half hour earlier, followed by the season premiere of Notes From the Underbelly and then the timeslot premiere of October Road.

Here’s hoping that the talks scheduled to begin today about the WGA strike will lead to something soon. I am in pre-withdrawals already, at the prospect of more of my favorite shows going on an extended hiatus, or worse, being canceled altogether. So, the TVaholic wishes that both sides will get their act together and talk seriously about ending this.

It is Cyber Monday, or the day that people head to their computers after not being able to find everything they wanted over the holiday weekend. If this describes you, then you might want to check out today’s One Day DVD Deals at Amazon and get up to 65% off, including DVD sets of The Office, House, The A-Team, Gilmore Girls, Seinfeld and Veronica Mars. Also, checkout the Buy.com Cyber Monday Sale for more great deals today.

Prime Picks

Chuck (NBC): New. Bryce is back from the dead and wants Chuck to help prove he isn’t a rogue agent. Meanwhile, Morgan gets left in charge at the Buy More, as the biggest shopping day of the year approaches.

Heroes (NBC): New. Matt tracks down the final person in the company photo. Peter tries to stop the virus he has learned about. Hiro tries to find his father’s killer. How great was last week’s episode. The best line was the last, as H.R.G. reanimated, gasped for air, sat up and said, “Holy …,” as the screened faded to black.

Journeyman (NBC): New. Dan is starting to learn what happens when he goes off mission and changes other things when he goes back to 1983 and is following a criminal that is just starting out. Livia is starting to find out what her purpose is in all this.

Solid Selections

How I Met You Mother (CBS) New. Last week’s episode right now ranks as the TVaholic’s second favorite episode of this series, after the first season’s “Slutty Pumpkin” Halloween episode, which is still my favorite and the one that got me hooked on the show. In tonight’s episode, Barney has gotten himself invited to the Victoria Secret Fashion Show’s after party, so he can mingle with models.
Aliens in America (The CW): New. Justin and Raja come up with an unbelievable school prank.

Samantha Who? (ABC): New. Moves to an earlier time tonight, as Sam gets set up on a blind date and Andrea is planning a trip to Rome.
Notes From the Underbelly (ABC): Season Premiere. Didn’t find this show to be all that funny last season, but there isn’t really anything else on and the TVaholic is willing to give it another chance.

CSI: Miami (CBS): New. When a nanny to a wealthy family turns up dead, the team investigates.

Cable Choices

The Closer (TNT): Repeats. Tonight, the final three summer episodes of season three replay, “Lover’s Leap,” and the two-part “’Til Death Do Us Part.” Next Monday, TNT will replay the entire third season leading up to the special two hour “Next of Kin” episode, which will be followed by the winter season premiere of Saving Grace.

Other Options

  • All Star Holiday Spirit (Food Network): New. Food Network personalities share some of their holiday recipes. Plays again later.
  • October Road (ABC): Timeslot Premiere. If you missed the premiere episode after Grey’s Anatomy on Thanksgiving night, well they brought Owen back, Nick thinks he is in love with Hannah again and Eddie thinks that he and Hannah have to tell Nick the truth about Sam. Tonight, Hannah tells Nick how she feels. Eddie is having trouble letting everyone know how he feels about Janet.
  • The Secret Life Of … (Food Network): New. The history of cooking schools is shown. Plays again later.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS): New. Alan finds out that his high school girlfriend was stolen away by Charlie and he plots his revenge.
