The Screen Actors Guild has been around for 75 years now and tonight was their 14th awards show. Other than the opening, with actors riffing on their acting careers, which was funny, the show was mostly a snoozer. At least they had a show though, I guess. The idea of recording it and fast-forwarding through the speeches and whatnot would have been a good idea. Anyway, for those that didn’t watch it, and good call there, here are the winners from the TV categories at The 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards:
Kevin Kline (As You Like It) – This was on HBO and like all the other nominees in this category, the TVaholic hasn’t seen this either.
Queen Latifah (Life Support) – Anybody else think that Mickey Rooney wasn’t ever going to announce the winner of this category? The way he took the stage and rambled on, you would of thought he was there to accept the lifetime achievement award tonight instead of Charles Durning. Anyway, had only seen USA’s The Starter Wife from this category.
James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) – Really! Even when actors give awards to themselves, they fall into the old awarding the ending of something that may have once been good, instead of awarding something that is actually deserving of the recognition. In this case, Michael C. Hall (Dexter), but at least he was nominated.
Edie Falco (The Sopranos) – Pretty much same as above goes for this win as well. I would of liked to have seen pretty much any of the other four nominees go home with the award for this category.
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) – Finally, an award the TVaholic can agree with, he so should have won the Golden Globe as well.
Tina Fey (30 Rock) – She was very self-deprecating in her acceptance, but it looks as though this “hat rack” has really come into her own, as an actor, in the role of Liz Lemon.
The Sopranos (HBO) – Again, really, should have gone to some other series, but we get yet another farewell to the cast listed below. Well, now maybe shows like Dexter, Mad Men, The Closer, Damages and others can get some SAG love next year, now that The Sopranos has faded to black for its last time.
