News & Notes

Torchwood - Season One on DVDTonight, Animal Planet and Discovery Channel both have the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship 2008 dog show and TLC has the fourth season premiere of Flip That House.

There sure isn’t much on really worth checking out, especially if you don’t have BBC America. But, if you have a decent Internet connection, then you may want to download and watch the premiere episode of NBC’s Lipstick Jungle before it debuts next Thursday night. Right now, you can get the episode free at Amazon Unbox.

Prime Picks

American Gladiators (NBC): Repeat. In this replay, a sales rep, a teacher, a coach and a chiropractor compete against the spandex glad warriors

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC): Repeat. A nanny is found murdered and her Internet lover is the prime suspect, but as the investigation continues, it starts to look like her employers could be behind it.

Law & Order (NBC): Repeat. Episode two from this season, “Darkness,” replays, where Green and Lupo investigate the murder of a housekeeper and the abduction of a mother and daughter during a blackout.

Solid Selection

War of the Worlds (ABC): Released 2005. This Tom Cruise vehicle has him playing a father that trying to survive a hostile alien invasion with his two daughters. Runs three hours.

Cable Choices

Treats of the Trade (Food Network): Repeat. Go inside the All American Desert Expo in Las Vegas. Plays again later.

Torchwood (BBC America): New. A woman killed a burglar but has no memory of it, but there may be something sinister behind it, as the team finds out while investigating. Last week’s season two premiere episode, “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang,” replays right before.

Dirt (FX): Repeat. The Courtney Cox (Friends) starrer replays the “Pilot” episode after an airing of the movie Fantastic Four. The next two episodes from season one follow, “Blogan” and “Ovophagy.” The next three episodes play next Saturday night. Season two is set to premiere on Sunday, March 2nd.

Other Options

  • Ace of Cakes (Food Network): Repeats. Four episodes replay, including Thursday’s new episode where they build a volcano cake. All four replay again later.
  • Bridal Fever (Hallmark Channel): Premiere. Delta Burke (Designing Women) plays a well known relationship author. When she learns that the editing assistant on her latest book is always a bridesmaid and never a bride, she sets out to find a guy for her and get her married. Runs two hours. Plays again next Friday night.
  • Trading Spaces (TLC): New. The show is much improved with a host and tonight the twist is a “Mother vs. Daughter.” Plays again later.

Sports Notes

  • ABC has college basketball action with Miami at Duke.
  • ESPN has a college basketball doubleheader early with Syracuse at Villanova followed by Oklahoma State at Texas Tech and later tonight has Arizona at UCLA.
  • ESPN2 has a college basketball tripleheader early that kicks off with Maryland at Georgia Tech.
  • NBA TV has the Houston Rockets at the Milwaukee Bucks.

Late Night

  • MADtv (FOX): New. An Avril Lavigne video parody is part of the frivolity tonight.
  • Saturday Night Live (NBC): Repeat. Well, this makes sense. The Tom Brady hosted episode replays, where musical guest Beck joins him.
  • Talkshow With Spike Feresten (FOX): New. The guys from Fight Quest are his guests.

BET has 28 episodes of The Wayans Bros.
Bravo has six episodes of Top Chef early.
ESPN2 has 24 episodes of Super Bowl Highlights.
FOX Reality has 11 episodes of Biggest Loser UK.
G4 has 10 episodes of The Jaime Kennedy Experiment early.
History Channel has six episodes of The Universe.
The N has 11 episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation.
