What Is in Store for Smallville Season 8?

With the departure of Michael Rosenbaum at the end of this season of Smallville, the show is going to need a new villain. So, it is getting two. Here is the press release The CW just sent over about what fans can look forward to in season eight.

Joint statement from “Smallville” Executive Producers Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson; The CW Network; and Warner Bros. Television regarding Michael Rosenbaum’s departure from “Smallville”:

“It has been an honor and pleasure to work with Michael for the past seven seasons. He is one of the best actors on television and has never failed to bring a new layer to the character of Lex Luthor in every episode. While Michael won’t be a series regular and we won’t have the pleasure of working with him on a weekly basis this fall, we like to think that we haven’t seen the last of Lex Luthor. Stay tuned.”

Details for Season 8:

Additionally, two new villains will join the cast of characters on “Smallville” this season: the legendary, unstoppable Doomsday, and a female antagonist who will challenge Clark in ways never before imagined. Casting is underway for both roles.

  • Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on “Smallville” for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.
  • Female villain: Doomsday won’t be Clark’s only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.

What do you think about the new Smallville villains? Hey comic fans! Who do you think this, “familiar to many fans,” female villain will be? Let us know in the comments.

Chett, I have been reading a little bit about female villains in the Superman comic universe and Livewire sounds like a possibility.

patrick, Did you notice when the previous comment was posted? October 7th, 2008. There was no release date for season eight at that time and still isn’t one that I kind find as of now. But, I would say that my assertion of next summer back then and your assertion that it will be out at the beginning of September this year, are pretty much the same thing.

patrick, We are talking about the same summer. You obviously didn’t read my last comment. Take note of the “2008” date of when I posted it would probably be out “next summer,” which means the summer of 2009.

patrick, Seriously, you are calling me a “smartass” and asking me to “watch how u talk,” after saying “if u guys r smart listen to me” in your previous comment. That’s funny.

  • patrick Sagmani Apr 5, 2009, 9:17 am

patrick, Your comments get funnier and funnier. Love that you think I should be more “specific” or clear, but keep leaving comments without punctuation, proper capitalization, or even real words. Love that I’m supposed to watch what I say, but you can say “watever” you want. Lastly, really loved how ironic it is that you called me a “mouron.”
