With all the times that ABC has moved Men in Trees around, this has been the one question that keeps being asked. Previous posts here at TVaholic answering whether or not Men in Trees has been cancelled still bring people to the site everyday. Especially, when ABC has seen fit to pull or move the show. Like they did again here recently.
Happily, the answer, up until now, has always been no, but that is no longer the case. Sadly, ABC has decided to cancel Men in Trees. I just sat down at my computer after watching Brothers & Sisters and read that Men in Trees has been cancelled.
It will, however, return to finish off this season on May 28th, as it was previously scheduled to do. Creator Jenny Bicks saw the possible writing on the wall and created an alternate ending for the season that will give fans a fitting conclusion and act as the series finale. So, at least there’s that.
Men in Trees was one of the most fun shows on TV. It had the quirky characters, the touching storylines and the great mix of comedy and drama that always made for an enjoyable hour. But, alas it will be no more. We will have to say goodbye to our favorite residents of Elmo, Alaska.
It is really too bad, as I thought it would actually make a good Monday night offering, between seasons of The Bachelor. Especially, with networks looking at going to a more year round programming schedule. Actually, if they would have just left it on Friday nights and not moved it all over the schedule or pulled it for long stretches of time, it would probably be doing just fine.
What do you think of ABC’s decision to cancel Men in Trees? How would you like to see the series end? Let us know in the comments.
Men In Trees was a light, fluffy, fun hour of television viewing. The characters were different enough, and actually proved interesting enough to deter from the annoyance of Marin’s neurotic episodes. I will miss this show, as I would have liked to see it take another year to round out the character stories.
Well, here we go again…every time I like a show it gets canceled. I’m starting to wonder if it is jusst me!
Kelly, I would have liked to see another year, as well.
Rosanne, It’s not just you.
I really wish that ABC would not cancel Men in Trees- it seemed to have a good following. I, and based on others’ comments, think that it would make it if given a chance now that the strike and scheduling have been worked out. It was hard to follow any show during that time. It was a show that could make you laugh and cry, and just quirky enough to hold your interest no matter what twists developed. I hope it will be revived eventually. Thank you, Jennifer Rogers
why cant you run both shows or find a different time and date to show it we all love the show and i dont know how much more of this the fans can take i mean if you keep ending new shows people airnt going to get into watching new ones in fear they will like it and it get canclled i mean everyone that i know loves men in trees and it was getting good ratings as far as i know so whats up with this. i am not going to watch anymore ABC shows if they cancle this one and my friends all agree with me they will not watch anymore shows either because this is non-sence and its just not right i know its just a show but we all really liked it and isn’t that what ABC wants is for people to like their shows but if not just keep cancling everything and see how far that gets you no one will watch anything so they dont get attached to anything
I have always wondered why programmers decide to move a show when it is doing well in a time slot and then wonder why it loses rating points. If they put a clever new show on and leave it alone it will probably do great things. There is way too much “reality” shows and not enough shows with actual writing with wit and humor. I have gotten so I don’t even check out very many new shows because they don’t last very long
ABC is the worst like you said, for moving shows around and then cancelling them. I fortunately was able to keep up with the show being tossed around, but I can honestly see how this can lose viewers. This show will be truly missed by my family members who watched along with myself. It was nice to have a show without violence, that was light hearted and most of all leaving me with a good feeling after watching. ABC you blew it!
REALLY disappointed! Wish the would bring it back. There’s only a few shows we watch now and here’s one less — I guess more time for books and other hobbies.
It is a mistake to take Men in Trees off the air. Too many shows are filled with filth. Men in Trees had it’s sexual inuendos but, for the most part the language was clean, the sceens were left to our imagination, and taste was used when including controversial subjects. I kept up with the series on the internet because I don’t have tv in my home for above reasons. I’ll no longer be lured to the website now either.
So few decent, lighthearted, interesting shows, and now another is cancelled. Now if Boston Legal is also cancelled, there’s nothing left for me except Grey’s Anatomy. Not all of us are enchanted with “reality” shows. We have enough reality….we want entertainment. Sick & tired of crime shows ad infinitum. Sick of people being paid to “act” like idiots on reality shows. Sick of the talking heads giving us the same old sound bites over, and over, and over, and..well you get it. Life was interesting before TV & it may be even better AFTER TV.
I agree with ALL of the the comments above and: To cancel MIT is a BIG MISTAKE. I’m done with ABC! (completely done, even with watching their news)
So sad. This is so sad. Men in Trees was one of my all time favorite nights of television. I couldn’t wait to get home and watch it. ABC is really falling down. I looked SO FORWARD to it. I don’t even know what to say. I’m so shocked. Dissapointed and just dumb founded. Why would they cancel a show like that? If they would have just kept it on Friday’s it would have been great! SO dissapointed in you ABC. Seriously. Dissapointed.
It just pisses me off. I really liked that show, it had gone down somewhat from what it was in the beginning but they could have brought it back up.
Trees had a loyal following even though the time and night were changed or it completely dropped off the screen. Fun, interesting characters – nice setting; different from the normal run of the mill show. How many surguries or lawyers can we watch – not many in my book. This is a big disappointment – the show was always the talk around the work table the next morning. Throw some sex filled, vile language program at us – I’m turning the channel.
I cannot believe Men in Trees has been cancelled. It was funny with a great variety of actors. Shame on you ABC! Did the writers find new shows on the writers strike? I watch very few shows on this channel. Here’s one less.
I really liked Men in Trees. I thought it was very entertaining and I hoped it has not been cacelled. How would anyone know anyway the network kept moving it and keep changing the time of the show. That was madding. I at least hope they put it on a DVD for us who liked it. I guess we’ll probably have another sit-com, or a show iwth killing on it or may be 20/20 can play for “three” hours. Why do the good shows always get cancelled. This was a breath of fresh air.
Myron and Jack get married and Patrick gets his memory back and marries Annie. I didn’t like what they were doing with M & J and I felt like they were going to have Jack start to have feelings for the girl in the lifeboat or Mryron like the dude who had the kidney transplant.. Too messy and blah for me. I loved the show but I say give us a nice happy ending and I will be happy. Now, October Road better not get cancelled after the two hour season finale……..that is cause for me to really be mad.
jan, It looks like you are going to be really mad, cause ABC has cancelled October Road.
This was a great hour of TV – relaxing and enjoyable. Leave it to ABC to take yet another great show away and for what? ABC needs to be turned off!!!!!
I loved Men In Trees, if ABC had not moved it around so much maybe it would have lasted. The characters were all interesting, and it reminded me of Northern Exposure, another great show about Alaska. I hope Marin and Jack get married in the finale.
I too am disappointed that Men in Trees has been cancelled. It is one of the few shows I enjoy watching after coming home from a day of working with career climbing sociopath bankers. It was an escape to a kinder gentler world…….Please bring it back
I can’t beleive they cancelled my favorite show!!My Husband and I both looked forward to watching that show every week. We tivoed it so we could always watch it together. We never watched with out the other one. That was a very relaxing show for us. Now you say it’s been cancelled, thats just wrong!!!!! My husband is going to be very upset when I tell him. It’s just our luck, we find something we enjoy and then it is taken away.
ABC should not cancel Men In Trees. It’s as simple as that. I don’t want them to tie up loose ends and take the show off the air. I want them to write more episodes and keep all the fun characters and stories just the way they are. They should put the show back on Fridays and not move it around.
It never makes sense to me how fun, interesting, semi-intelligent shows like Men in Trees get canceled when shows like… Well, the entire UPN line-up are still on the air. I am glad that they are going to wrap it up, but I am going to miss Abraham Benrubi (now that he’s not on ER anymore), that little hottie paramedic woman, and of course Jack, who is waaaaay more appealing than any other McHunk on ABC. For the finale, I would hope that they would make Patrick regain his damned memory and get back together with Annie, and get Marin to realize what an amazing man Jack is, already, damnit.
I am so disappointed that it got canceled. I love that show. It was the only show I watched. It seems to me they weren’t given a fair shake since they were always moving the time slot or taking it off the air for long periods of time. I am bummed!
What is wrong with ABC? I loved Men in Show’s. People if you really love MIT write ABC a letter and tell them to quit cancelling shows. Personally i liked MEn in Trees on Friday nights. If i couldn’t watch it i’d DVR it so i could watch it when i got home. I loved the show so much. It’s one of those rare shows that have good acting it’s PG and funny. I loved the characters from Elmo.. I was really looking forward to watching it next season. I hope another network picks up the show.. Men in Trees had alot of fans.. Damm you ABC
Loved the show. I suppose its being cancelled to fit in more reality shows. Too many reality shows and not much drama to watch anymore. This is too bad….Men in Trees was on of my top favorites, right up there with Grey’s Anatomy.
I echo the same sentiments…What is wrong with ABC? These networks do not give shows a chance to find their sea legs before cutting them off. This was a great show. I’m so disappointed. I suppose they will premiere another mindless reality show in its place. Shame on you.
you’ve got 2 be kidding me right, un friggin real “ABC” great show love it.wth???????i always “dvr” it and then boom gone outta the blue com’on ppl get real, if anything should go should be the moronic show “ugly betty”!!!!!!!!! that show jus stoopid as hell…….next they be taking greys off…..figures great show great characters, i agree on the toooo many friggin reality shows buncha crap, jus when jack & marin get back together….u dumb butts at abc need to get it together…………
It figures. Men In Trees is the most enjoyable show to come on tv in quite awhile. So of course they would cancel it. Anyone who was waiting all week to sit down on a Friday evening, and actually see a DECENT show, will now be left to flip through channels trying hard NOT to find another stupid reality show, full of jerks. When will the heads of these stations realize that there are way more people sitting home watching and waiting for entertainment, that is not an asinine reality show? Men In Trees,is a wonderfully written show, with super actors and actresses, and a backdrop that most of us can only dream about.
Taking it off Friday and moving it all over the place was a bad move to start with, but ,the regular viewers have stayed with it and we are all furious for it being cancelled.
Maybe another Media will scarf it up,like NBC,or even Fox. It is a shame that when ever a GREAT show comes along,it gets booted out,and then replaced with something that you would have to be a brainless moron to watch. AGAIN…. ABC…You screwed up big time! BRING IT BACK! PLEASE…………..
Men In Trees was one of very FEW shows that I would watch on tv. It was relaxing. It is a shame that ABC didn’t think it was exciting enough. They have so many other shows that are a waste of time and money. ABC set it up for failure by continually moving time slots. Please put it back on the air.
What a disappointment. It was a really quirky show with interesting characters. It reminded me of Northern Exposure that aired several years ago. This was great ‘escape’ television and I think ABC is making a big mistake. It’s a shame to become invested in the characters while trying to stick with it as it’s moved and preempted. Maybe they’ll reconsider or another network will pick it up.
Come ON people! Do NOT cancel Men in Trees! What does it take to keep a truly engaging show on the air these days? I was thrilled to discover (and fall hard for) Men In Trees and the quirky characters of Elmo. Please, somebody with the power to do so, pick up this gem and run it on your own network. It deserves a good home with a stable timeslot.
It’s definately not just you. (all of you) I too like quality shows that networks and the “average american” can’t grasp. Every time I get attached, the show is taken off the air. i.e. Love Monkey, Dirty Sexy Money, Studio 66, Back to You. Why can’t we get quality television to stick? I am a fan of reality tv as well. Mainly, because almost all my other options have been taken away from me. Please ABC, keep Men in Trees. How could you not enjoy the characters? Patrick needs to get his memory back. Plow guy needs to move back to Alaska. Marin and Jack need to tie the knot..
Carip, Patrick totally needs to get his memory back and get back with Annie. Love Monkey was great and should have been given a better shot than CBS gave it. As for Dirty Sexy Money, it will be back in the fall. ABC just decided not to bring it back for only a few episodes after the strike and to give it a full relaunch in the fall.
I am so disappointed that MIT has been cancelled…Am so sick of all the stupid reality shows that are forced upon us..Celebrity circus, come on…I hate you ABC…BOO BOO HISS HISS!!!!!!!!!!!!
It sucks that the darn show has been cancelled! It’s one of the best shows on TV these days! Better than any reality show could ever be. It’s such a lighthearted and fun show that most adults can enjoy, which is getting to be very rare in TV these days. I’m sure going to miss it!
I think Men in Trees is one of the best shows on TV right now, and ABC is making a huge mistake by cancelling it!!!
It’s the only show I looked forward to.
this sucks, men in trees is a great show as was october road. those were the only two reasons i even watched abc. why are the two shows with such great characters and writing have to be cancelled? this is just crap and i am so done with abc. go back to good dramas and do away with all this reality nonsense, it sucks hind tit. boycott abc and demand that the good shows return, starting with men in trees. the potential for many seasons was there, it just wasnt ever given a chance. abc, you suck.
I hate that the show has been cancelled. I will miss eavesdropping on the lives of those quirky Elmoans … it’s a shame, really … one of the last few shows that were worth watching. I live in reality (well, mostly) – I certainly don’t need to watch it on TV … and seriously folks … how “real” do you think the Bachelor is anyway?
We loved watching Men In Trees!!! I enjoyed the way the show was written, the acting and the beautiful scenery. Several people I know loved it as well. We are going to miss watching this show in our house. We were so happy to see it return after the writer’s strike and now it is cancelled? What were they thinking when they canceled this show???
Good Lord: what is wrong with the powers that be? Men in Trees was THE best show on TV. You know, I loved North Shore…CANCELLED; Las Vegas….CANCELLED…….Cane….CANCELLED….and NOW….Men in Trees!! What a great ensemble cast they have. The acting is great and all the ‘characters’ were so very warm and neurotic! I just loved it. Maybe if the network hadn’t jerked it around time and again, the show would have had a more loyal following. I have HAD it with all the reality shows that make fools of its contestants and have them groveling and doing all sorts of disgusting things. Bring back the entertainment value!! PLEASE, PLEASE don’t cancel Men in Trees!!
I am so STUNNED to have missed the FINAL of Men In Trees! Can anyone PLEASE tell me how it ended? Sobbing in New Zealand…..
Men in Trees was one of the shows I actually looked forward to every week.I am sick and tired of these networks cancelling the good, fun, wholesome shows the a family can actually watch together. Why do the network brain trusts think that we actually all want to watch the awful “reality” shows that the bombard us with. I may just turn off the TV completely and just read a good book.
Lisa, The problem is that enough people want to watch the “reality” stuff and that it costs significantly less to produce an episode. So, overall the network can actually make more money than on a more expensive to make scripted show that maybe more people are watching, but not enough to make it financially as viable. In the case of Men in Trees, ABC just screwed that show over by moving it around so much that the people that did want to watch, could never find it.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO UPSET that Men in trees is being cancelled. It was my ultimate favorite show on TV. I think they are making a huge mistake!!!!! Please please please don’t cancel!!!!!!
I can’t believe that ABC has a successful show like Men in Trees, and even though they move it around they still have a faithful following of devoted fans, they are so ignorant as to
cancel a popular show as this one is. Who are they trying to please? Certainly not the public. I wish I could demand that they keep this show on the air because it was one of the best in the industry. It lifted my spirits with its comedy and I adored the natural beauty of Alaska not to mention the loveable characters that quickly grow on you. I never missed a show! Who can I write to with my demands that they keep it on the air? Mahalo, Connie
Is there anyway to get a show back on???? I looked forward to watching Men in Trees every week. M.I.T. and October Road, my two favorite shows … gone. Is it me?
I’ve been waiting for Men in trees to return. They gave us no warning that it was being pulled or ending. That was not a finale. We want to see more episodes of this show. It was one of 2 shows that my husband and I looked forward to watching together. Men in Trees and Kyle XY left us wanting more and they both ended at least temporarily the same week. We’ve been channel surfing looking for something else decent to fill the void and our Dvr is still set to record Men in Trees should it ever re emerge on the play list. Maybe writers of great shows that get cancelled should not only put out the old seasons on DVD but also make the ones that the networks drop and sell them directly to the public.. then we’ll all be watching the DVDs that we want and not the crap or re runs that the network chooses to run in to the ground.
I am extremely disappointed that MIT is off the air. I tend to watch more ABC than other networks, but this really has me upset. It was a great show and they certainly hurt it’s efforts to get a large following by moving it all the time. I used to be a faithful Grey’s Anatomy watcher – but I don’t miss it if I don’t see it like I do with MIT. Men in Trees had just the right mix of drama and comedy and great acting, that always made me want to watch it. Maybe another network could pick it up. It seems like most of the networks are going to violent and/or overly dramatic plot lines to keep the public’s interest. I for one, don’t want to watch that, especially before trying to sleep. I also love October Road – I’m I reading the above right, that it is gone too?? Okay, Jason, who do we write to to make our voices heard about all of this nonsense? After all, WE are the consumer. Thanks!
MIT is the only drama show I watch. I hate reality shows. Who wants to see the nasty side of humanity. There’s enough of that crap on the News. Please bring back MIT and finish off the past season properly. I’m waiting…………………………
Lotus and Julie, I answered your question as part of the latest Ask the TVaholic column at:
http://www.tvaholic.com/2008/08/14/ask-the-tvaholic-cashmere-mafia-sue-thomas-fbeye-shark-more/
please don’t cancel men in trees, this was one of the best shows ever, give it a time slot and leave it on, i never missedan episode bring it back, give the viewers something to look forward to besides reality and game shows, so i will be waiting,
I absolutely loved Men in Trees and was just looking online to see when it would be returning only to find out it has been cancelled. I am extremely upset because it seems that every good show that comes out is only on long enough to suck us in and then they cancel it to put some stupid show on in it’s place only to cancel it. Men in Trees was one of the best shows on TV. I will miss it and the characters very much. It really does make you want to move to Alaska! Hopefully this isn’t the end. I would love to see it return. I agree with many other people that if it had not been moved around so much it woudl have developed a much larger audience.
I am so disappointed that Men In Trees has been cancelled. I looked forward every week to relaxing and watching Men In Trees-my favorite show. The actors were all very good and the scenery just beautiful. I get upset when I see some of the awful shows that are kept on that should be cancelled. Please bring Men In Trees back and leave it on the same night – don’t keep changing the days and times.
Shame on you, ABC, for taking Men In Trees off the air. You had a winner and you killed it with all the interruptions and time changes. I am going to miss it so much. I loved the characters and the settings. What a shame. Please bring it back and don’t tinker with it!!!
I am so upset that Men in Trees has been cnacelled, I mean come on with all the stupid crap that is on TV I had just a few shows I could watch and Men in Trees was one of them. PLEASE bring in back, I would watch it instead of dancing w/the stars or what ever else is on monday nights. I would watch it instead of a lot of shows. SO PLEASE bring it back, all some of us have is TV. I would be a faithful watcher no matter what time or day it is on. I miss it!!
WHATS IS GOING ON!!!!! you guys need to put men in trees back on the air maybe a different night or something. It is a great shoo
it keeps you wanting to come back for more.I agree with Pamela I have only a few shows i watch and that is one of them and not only
are you guys messing with men in trees but October Road too. There goes another show of mine. If you guys would stop all the interruptions it
prob would have had better ratings. PLEASE PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
I am also very upset to find that my favorite show Men In Trees has been canceled, NOT FAIR, what is wrong with you people, I can not believe that you keep such rediculous crap on such as the Bachelor, but a truely enjoyable show like Men In Trees you yank, you Hollywood people wouldn’t know a good show if it came up and bit you on the butt. Please keep Brothers and Sisters, and Ghost Whisperer. Oh, by the way, thank’s for canceling Las Vegas, (NBC) another mistake, when you enjoy something and then it’s taken away, it leave’s an empty feeling for a while, tv isn’t my life, but it helps feel the void. Thank you.
For the first time in along time a cute show without rape, murder, mayham. Waited every week for Trees to come on, (sometime hard to find…..why was it moved so much) there are several nights with nothing good to watch except reruns. Surely you could have found a spot. NOT EVERYONE LIKES GAME SHOWS!!!!!
Maybe a station with smarter execs will pick it up. PLEASE..PLEASE..PLEASE.
I agree with Carmela of 11/11. This was a show that was wholesome & what little negativity it had, was brought out to come around by the end of the show as a positive. America is sick of garbage cop shows, reality TV, and all the junk on TV. Come on people….wake up & see that we need to have wholesome TV for people. Please, someone out there in TV land, keep this show going! Give us a reason to watch TV.
I was trying to find out when Men in Trees would be on again when I ran across your website. I was thoroughly disappointed to find that MIT was cancelled. I never would have thought. It was my favorite show. However, I was wondering when I saw Tupper on Samantha Who. So how did MIT end? I must have missed it. I don’t remember anything that seemed like an ending. Let me know please. Thx!
Cindy from Alaska, It has been a while. If I remember correctly, it ended last June and pretty much everyone but Patrick ended up with the person you would have expected.
Well, ABC flunked this test. Men in Trees was a fun, entertaining program. Not many of those around to choose from. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING. If they’d have left it on one time slot it would have helped.
This really sucks. I loved this show. The players all meshed so nice. Damn it!!
I am in shock! Here I was waiting for new episodes, never bothered to check the internet to see if new episodes were even produced, since the idea of not making a third season just seemed absurd to me… Big big sigh… And yes, a tear too…
