In sports news, it’s opening night of the 2008-09 NBA season with a doubleheader on TNT and FOX may have the resumption of Game 5 of the MLB World Series.

House (FOX): New. May or may not be on tonight due to the resumption of the suspended MLB World Series Game 5. It was supposed to be the one with Cuddy about to adopt a baby.

The Mentalist (CBS): New. A woman is found with the murder weapon in hand, but claims to have no memory of killing her friend. Jane believes her.

Eli Stone (FOX): New. Jordan has to defend himself against charges of insanity. Eli realizes that he can change the outcome of his visions of the future.

Solid Selections

NCIS (CBS): New. It’s the week of Halloween and a psycho is leaving clues about the identity of the next. The team investigates.

Privileged (The CW): New. Megan thinks it is time to let her father know she is back in town and invites him to dinner, which ends up with her sister the neighbor and the girls she is tutoring all attending.

Without a Trace (CBS): New. A child is abducted and the team has to drop another case and focus on this new one.

Cable Choices

Lincoln Heights (ABC Family): New. The Sutton household is dealing with Johnny’s accident. Plays again later.

Greek (ABC Family): Season Finale. Lauren Conrad counsels Casey in a dream about what she should do during the summer. Rusty and the other pledges try to get through “Hell Week.” Plays again late night tomorrow. The previous nine episodes of this season replay earlier in the day, leading up to Lincoln Heights.

The Shield (FX): New. The Barn is hunting down two dangerous criminals. David’s mayoral campaign may be in trouble. Runs 64 minutes. Plays again later.

Other Options

  • 90210 (The CW): New. It’s homecoming and Annie and Ethan are going together, but it isn’t an official date. Adrianna is forced to go to rehab.
  • Big Break X (Golf Channel): New. One player is being very divisive and creating problems. Plays again later.
  • Dirty Jobs (Discovery Channel): New. Mike makes some dog food and catches some leeches. Plays again later. Last week’s episode replays right before.
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (ABC): Repeat. Linus is waiting in the pumpkin patch for the elusive symbol of Halloween to show. A bonus cartoon, You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown, where Linus is running for class president.
  • Rita Rocks (Lifetime): New. Rita is feeling mighty unapreciated after she gets peppered with requests from both her daughters after returning from a hard day at work. This will be the show’s regular night.

Sports Notes

  • ESPN2 has college football action with Houston at Marshall.
  • TNT has doubleheader NBA action with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Boston Celtics followed by the Portland Trail Blazers at the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Versus has NHL hockey action.

Late Night

  • Frank TV (TBS): New. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal host a political show. Plays again later.
  • Raising the Bar (TNT): Repeat. Last night’s episode, “Out on the Roof,” replays.
  • Sons of Anarchy (FX): Repeat. Last Wednesday’s episode, “The Pull,” replays.

TV Marathons

ABC Family has nine season two episodes of Greek.
USA has the three-part, six-hour Tin Man miniseries early.
