I have seen many episodes of Designing Women, but have not see them in series order. It would be great to have the first season on DVD so that I can see how it all began. I really think that Anthony Bouvier (Meshach Taylor)is a great asset to the Sugarbaker family. I can’t say that I have a favorite episode, but the show is really funny and entertaining. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to win the complete first season on DVD.

My favorite memory of Designing Women is watching it in the back room of my grandparents’ house with my grandmother and my cousins.

  • Debbie B May 19, 2009, 7:33 pm

It’s been so long since I’ve seen or even thought about Designing women- I’d love the season one DVD because I always enjoyed the show and I’d like to see it again!

  • Mary May 20, 2009, 7:41 am

Great ensemble cast. Everyone played off of each other flawlessly. My favorite character was Julia Sugarbaker. I loved how her character held her tongue as long as she could, and them she’d let them have it!

  • Lorie May 20, 2009, 2:50 pm

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Designing Women. About 8 years ago I used to watch an episode every morning before work. I think my favorite memory is when Suzanne lost her Miss Georgia crown due to a miscount, but regains it at the end. Loved that show!!

  • Carla Pullum May 21, 2009, 4:04 pm

I seem to recall from the show all the dating and drama that used to go on. it’s been a while but would love to watch it all over again!

  • Amanda Galloway May 22, 2009, 1:56 pm

It’s been awhile since I’ve watched Designing Women, but I always loved the humor of the show. I think some of the funniest episodes were watching Suzanne with that pig she had.

  • Heidi May 24, 2009, 7:42 am

My favorite memory has got to be the episode where Suzanne meets up with her former fellow beauty contestants, and Julia delivers that awesome speech that ends with “And that was the night the lights went out in Georgia!”

  • Karin May 26, 2009, 9:09 am

Don’t really have a favorite episode– Loved Suzanne and Anthony together. They always made me laugh.

The one thing I hated about some later episodes is when the shows wanted to educate or preach about some issue—- seems like breast cancer was one of the things they got on their soapbox about— ugh. Drove me nuts. Comedy shows should entertain me …..not tell me what to do or how to think!

  • Betty May 26, 2009, 9:33 am

Haven’t seen the show but a couple friends were devoted fans. I’d love to have the series to watch.

  • Johannah B May 26, 2009, 9:44 am

I loved the way these women interacted. I loved the southern belle who were not only not weak and subservent but vital, strong and determined. Anthony always also added so much humor to the show.

  • Esther Hunter May 26, 2009, 2:19 pm

It’s been so long since I’ve seen an episode, but I have seen them all! Can’t really say which is my favorite, I loved every one. Would love to have Season 1 to relive all the good memories.

  • Mildred May 27, 2009, 12:04 am

I have not seen this TV series, but I’ve heard about the funny character interactions. It would be great to see the show in order starting with the first episode.

  • LindaD May 28, 2009, 6:11 am

I seem to remember an episode where Julia Sugarbaker is an emcee or something like that for maybe a fashion show. In one scene she comes out of the ladies room with the hem of her skirt stuck into the top of her panty hose in back. Even though my memory is vauge…. I do remember it was hysterical. Thanks for the chance!

  • Gamma May 28, 2009, 7:27 am

    She’s going to exfoliate me!!!

  • mary May 28, 2009, 7:53 am

  • Enid May 28, 2009, 9:28 am

  • Linda May 28, 2009, 9:33 am

    Awesome series

  • Tracey Byram May 28, 2009, 9:49 am

The episode that I remember most vividly was the one with the little asian girl that Suzanne had staying with her. A little mini Suzanne.

  • Melissa D May 28, 2009, 10:33 am

    annie being annie

  • Jaque May 28, 2009, 2:47 pm

I love the episode when they were all in a charity talent show, I think they were doing a song by Diana Ross and the Supremes. Suzanne was late and misunderstood the costumes…she showed up in black face! I guess Suzanne’s antics made me laugh the hardest.

    Thank you. :-)

  • Nick Somoski May 28, 2009, 2:52 pm

I started watching Designing Women on TV Land actually. I watched it every time it came on. Unfortunately, they don’t even air it anymore.

  • Jill e May 28, 2009, 4:30 pm

The best episode ever was “they shoot fat women dont they” when Suzanne went back to her pageant reunion?..and they were talking about how heavy she had gotten..and she gave the best speech ever!

It is a true classic. I too am from the SOUTH and can truly laugh at the antics of the ladies on Designing Women. Thanks.

I have only seen a couple episodes and LOVED it!! Thanks for the chance.

I used to watch this with my granny -it was her favorite show!

  • Ann May 29, 2009, 3:56 pm

Many episodes of the show are in my favorite list, but one of the best – the ladies are discussing bras, particularly training bras, and Delta Burke’s character, Suzanne, says something to the effect of “You people consider full figured women dumb, and you had to train yours”

  • James May 29, 2009, 7:46 pm

I liked when Suzanne bought a pig…so funny

One of my favorite memories of Designing Women is one episode when Dixie Carter’s real life daughters appeared as Julia & Suzanne’s nieces. They turned out to be younger versions of each of them – it was so funny :)

  • Martha Hardcastle Guthrie May 30, 2009, 9:56 am

I never got to watch “Designing Women” until I was pregnant with my second child in 1993. In my sixth month, I was fired from my job at a miserable small daily newspaper with the worst managing editor known to man and was resigned to watching reruns in the daytime.

I was hooked. It also didn’t hurt that I was raised by a southern Mama in the upper south. Suzanne was my girl, but it was just a few days before I gave birth to Danny that Charlene “gave birth” herself, and the timing was perfect. I’ve been waiting for this now for a long time.

    I hope I win!

    Martha

  • cheryl May 30, 2009, 11:39 am

I have so many favorite ones, it is so hard to choose but the first one that comes to mind is the Rowdy girls episode, when one of Charlenes friends is an abused wife, next is big hass and little falsy, Suzannes class reunion, Charlenes wedding, when the couples would go on trips- too many. That show has some of the best one liners. Even my father enjoyed watching the show. When my son was young he called it the The Sugarbakers.

  • Deborah Wellenstein May 30, 2009, 12:23 pm

The “They Shoot Fat Women..” episode was the greatest. Thanks!

  • Adam May 30, 2009, 12:47 pm

Julia taught me how to fight, and Suzanne taught me how to look fabulous doing it! “Eat Dirt!”

  • Marianna May 30, 2009, 2:02 pm

One of my friends is crazy for Designing Women and I’d love to be able to gift this to him!

  • Angela May 30, 2009, 6:24 pm

I still chuckle to myself thinking about seeing myself on every channel on the tv after it had been struck by lightening. LOL maybe wallpaper the den with tin foil….. Wonderful series absolutely loved it. Watch reruns on tv whenever they are on.

  • Rachel Robertson May 30, 2009, 11:37 pm

My favorite episode is the one where Suzanne went to her reunion. I loved the poignant way they entertwined the story of fasting to raise money and the way the little boy told Suzanne she was beautiful. The speech she gave at the reunion for most changed person still brings tears to my eyes. I would love to win this as the show always brings laughter and has so many epsisodes where they address problems of the world but do it in a gentle not preachy way.

  • Paula Harmon May 31, 2009, 4:59 am

My favorite memory of this show is watching it with my mom many years ago. If I won, I would give this prize to my mom. She collects dvd sets.

  • Jacy May 31, 2009, 2:04 pm

I’d love the season one DVD because I always enjoyed the show and I’d like to see it again

  • Geoff K May 31, 2009, 11:16 pm

My favorite “Designing Women” moment would definitely have to be Julia’s epic moment putting the Miss Georgia contestant in her place by recounting Suzanne’s triumphant fire baton routine and victory in the pageant — it was so over-the-top and melodramatic, but I loved every second of it!

  • Carol Lawrence Jun 1, 2009, 12:20 am

  • Ann Jun 1, 2009, 8:43 am

  • Teresa B. Jun 1, 2009, 12:34 pm

Oh I absolutely loved Designing Women! I think my favorite memory of the show was when Charlene had her baby. I think she had a rough time of it and dreamed that Dolly Parton was here guardian angel (if I remember correctly). She met this very smart older lady at the hospital who’d lived quite a remarkable life. They talked about a lot of the things that had happened in her lifetime. She was very old and all of her family had died. That night she passed away as Charlene’s baby was born and it showed Dolly escorting her off to heaven. Like I said, I LOVED that show. Thanks!

  • Jacob LaFountaine Jun 1, 2009, 7:37 pm

I don’t remember any of the characters that well

  • Auriette Jun 1, 2009, 8:44 pm

I used to watch this show all the time. The first clip that came to mind was Charlene, practicing to meet the Queen and she was planning to say, “My heart is full.” Then I thought of the time the women helped Charlene’s friend escape from an abusive husband to the tune of the Supremes. Then I recalled the time the women went to a retreat and Anthony ended up there dressed as a woman and when the leader asked who “she” talked to about registration he said, in falsetto of course, “Some white chick.” Funny, funny stuff! This was one of my favorite shows of the ’80’s! I still remember the controversial AIDS episode.
