Prime Picks

Smallville (The CW): New. Guest star Brian Austin Green (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) plays John Corben, who after getting hit by a truck wakes up and he has been transformed into a Kryptonite powered machine man.

Stargate Universe (Syfy): Series Premiere. A group of scientists, civilians and soldiers finds themselves trapped on an ancient ship on an unknown course. They must figure out how the ship works, if they are to survive. Runs two hours. Plays twice and again seven more times over the next week, including right before next week’s new episode. I don’t really want to say too much, except that this is one of my favorite new shows of the season. You should really give this a shot, even if you haven’t liked the previous Stargate incarnations. The cast is very good and the potential is quite high. If you’re looking for a well written, character driven, sci-fi drama, then look no further. I’ve seen next week’s episode as well and am really looking forward to seeing whether this show takes us each week. Also, I will be visiting the set next Tuesday, so if you have any questions about the show, for the cast, etc., send them my way and I will try to get them answered.

Solid Selections

FlashForward (ABC): Repeat. Last night’s episode, “White to Play,” replays.

Dollhouse (FOX): New. Echo gets uploaded with the imprint of the mother of a newborn and her maternal instincts kick in. Adelle goes to see November.

Numb3rs (CBS): New. Two members of the FBI are killed during a shootout with some bank robbers, but Charlie shows that it might have been “Friendly Fire” that was to blame.

Other Options

  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Cartoon Network): Season Premiere. Two episodes play. Plays twice and again Sunday and next Friday.
  • Medium (CBS): New. Allison thinks her daughter has been taken over by the spirit of a dead hooker that is out for revenge on her killer.

Sports Notes

  • ESPN has Friday Night Baseball with the Chicago White Sox at the Detroit Tigers.
  • ESPN2 college football action with Pittsburgh at Louisville.

Late Night

  • Sons of Anarchy (FX): Repeat. This past Tuesday’s episode, “Eureka,” replays. Runs 61 minutes.

I’ve enjoyed the first two episodes of Mercy, so that will stay on my list for now. Now’s the time when I need to start cutting down my line-up as things are piling up on the DVRs. Decided to drop the NCIS 2-hour block as I never watched NCIS before–maybe some day I’ll catch up via DVD/Blu. Also skipped the Brothers pilot. Still need to figure out what else will be out (will probably lose most of the CW shows).
Favorite new network show so far is FlashForward–it’s been great and each episode has left me wanting to see more. Also looking forward to more SGU–so disappointed to see the “to be continued” during last night’s episode.
Loved the twitter comment: “Sunday’s #Seinfeld reunion ep of @HBO’s #CurbYourEnthusiasm is pretty, pretty, pretty good.” :)

Kyle, You didn’t miss anything by missing the Brothers “Pilot” episode. It was pretty bad. As for the “To Be Continued” at the end of Stargate Universe, leaving you wanting more is a good thing for a series. Also, thanks for the props on the Seinfeld comment.
