News & Notes

Get Dexter Season 3 on DVD at AmazonTonight, CBS has the TV movie premiere of A Dog Named Christmas.

On cable tonight, ABC Family has the TV movies premiere of The Dog Who Saved Christmas, BET has the 2009 Soul Train Awards, Discovery Channel has the third season finale of Storm Chasers, E! has the first season finale of Leave It to the Lamas, Food Network has an Iron Chef America special, HBO has The 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert, HGTV has a Behind the Magic special, and Travel Channel has the series premiere of Meet the Natives USA.

Prime Picks

The Simpsons (FOX): New. Lisa finds three young girls practicing witchcraft after she gets lost in a field. Homer hangs out with Cleatus. Runs 30 minutes.

Dexter (Showtime): New. Dexter learns more about Trinity. Debra’s findings lead to a hard choice for her partner. Masuka is keeping what he saw a Thanksgiving to himself. Plays again later. Last week’s episode replays right before.

Brothers & Sisters (ABC): New. Rebecca is still keeping her secret from Justin, who just happens to be keeping something from her. Sarah thinks there is something wrong with Nora’s new boyfriend. Starts a minute after the hour and runs 59 minutes. This episode finally brings a storyline that I don’t care for to a sort of close. Something that could have been dealt with multiple episodes ago, because not telling about a pregnancy is just creating drama for drama’s sake. The only real drama that comes from it is what you get in tonight’s episode. All the lead up and prolonging of something that only has one real way to go is just lame. Overall though, this episode is really good, as has this season. What do you think about the season so far? Or, the Rebecca/Justin pregnancy secret storyline?

Solid Selections

Food Network Challenge (Food Network): New. Teams square off to create six-foot tall gingerbread houses. Plays again later.

Desperate Housewives (ABC): New. Angie thinks it is time for her family to leave after there is another attack. Bree and Karl are finding it more and more difficult to hide their affair. Runs 61 minutes.

Californication (Showtime): New. Hank and Charlie go out for a boys’ night and Karen, Becca, and Marcy go out for a girls’ night. Runs 30 minutes. Plays twice.

Other Option

  • Iron Chef America (Food Network): New Special. Iron Chef Bobby Flay goes up against Iron Chef Morimoto with the addition of ice carvers helping the presentations. Plays again later.

The Simpsons hasn’t been a “prime pick” for anyone in about 4 seasons now. I’d rather watch Good Times (and I dislike that show for the most part).

Gadget, Well, while The Simpsons may not be as good as it used to be, I still think it is the best option in the first hour of primetime tonight.
