Over on cable, Animal Planet has the first season finale of Killer Outbreaks, ESPN has the 42nd season premiere of Monday Night Football, Food Network has the sixth season premiere of The Best Thing I Ever Ate, HGTV has the sixth season finale of HGTV Design Star and the series premiere of Showhouse Showdown, MTV has the fifth season finale of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, TLC has the series finale of Kate Plus 8 and the second season premiere of Extreme Couponing, and TNT has the seventh summer season finale of The Closer and the second summer season finale of Rizzoli & Isles.

Next Monday, ABC has the season premieres of Dancing With the Stars and Castle, CBS has the season premieres of How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men and Hawaii Five-0 and the series premiere of 2 Broke Girls, and NBC has the season premiere The Sing-Off and the series premiere of The Playboy Club.

Eureka (Syfy): New. Carter and Taggart are looking into how a cow melted. Deputy Andy gets stranded on Titan. Plays again later.

The Closer (TNT): Summer Finale. Major Crimes is investigating the shooting of a deputy sheriff and the judge rules on the case against Brenda. Plays again later. Last week’s episode, “Star Turn,” replays right before. Such a great episode, as it’s everything we’ve come to expect from the show. It both gives you some closure and sets the stage for the next batch of episodes when the show returns in a few months.

Alphas (Syfy): New. Nina and Hicks have to go undercover and discover something that could be bad for Alphas. Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation) guests. Plays again later.
