News & Notes
Tonight, ABC has the 15th season premiere of Dancing With the Stars and the fifth season premiere of Castle, CBS has the eighth season premiere of How I Met Your Mother, the series premiere of Partners, the second season premiere of 2 Broke Girls, the third season premiere of Mike & Molly and the third season premiere of Hawaii Five-0, and The CW has the second season finale of The L.A. Complex.
Over on cable, E! has a No Doubt special and a Fashion Police: The 2012 Emmys special.
Today marks the official start of the Fall TV season and the return of the Solid Selections section of the daily picks post, which gives you our second favorite show for each hour of primetime.
Prime Picks
Alphas (Syfy): New. It looks like Hicks has gone to work for Parrish, who is trying to cause a huge blackout. Plays again later two times.
Warehouse 13 (Syfy): New. Brother Adrian begins sending dangerous artifacts to the family members of the team to try and get Artie to reverse things. Mrs. Fredric and Steve find something out at the Vatican. Plays again later.
Castle (ABC): Season Premiere. Castle and Beckett keep things to themselves as they get information about who was ultimately responsible for her mother’s death. Starts a minute after the hour and runs 59 minutes. In a word, awesome! Opens up the morning after where season four ended. It looks like they will have some fun with trying to keep things a secret while they figure things out. This episode looks to do something that I’ve been saying needs to happen besides putting the leads together.
Solid Selections
The L.A. Complex (The CW): New. Abby is in a panic. Beth is worried about losing Simon. Nick’s career continues to falter. Sabrina gets some potentially big news.
The L.A. Complex (The CW): Season Finale. Connor needs solace after things get weird with Charlotte. Sabrina and Nick are having some problems. Abby makes a decision.
Revolution (NBC): New. They go in search of some help in rescuing Danny. Starts a minute after the hour and runs 59 minutes. Looking forward to seeing more and finding out if this show will at least maintain and begin to grow or start to falter. Hoping for the former.
Other Options
- Bones (FOX): New. Booth and Brennan are having a hard time after her three month absence and it shows while they investigate the death of a divorce attorney. Very good episode, which shows the types of storytelling you can do after getting your main characters together.
- Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives (MTV): New. It’s an “Italian Extravaganza.” Plays again later. Eight repeat episodes play right before.
- Hawaii Five-0 (CBS): Season Premiere. Steve finally finds out who Shelburn is and the team is after Wo Fat after his escape while dealing with a loss. Good episode that ends with an interesting occurrence, but the Wo Fat stuff is already getting old.
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS): Season Premiere. Ted tries to calm Robin by telling her the story of leaving a note for Victoria’s ex-fiancé. Solid episode to kick off the season, but it really is getting time to have Ted meet the mother already.
- Major Crimes (TNT): New. Political agendas cause problems for an investigation. Something is learned about Rusty. Plays again later. Last week’s episode, “Out of Bounds,” replays right before.
- The Mob Doctor (FOX): New. Grace is tasked with trying to help a mob figure with an unidentified illness. She takes her doctor boyfriend home for dinner. Things do not improve and with even more competition this week, this show may not be around much longer.
- Partners (CBS): Series Premiere. A guy’s engagement is messed up by his friend, who then tries to fix things. Runs 30 minutes. I found this incredibly unfunny and next week’s episode doesn’t improve on things. It is rapid fire joke attempts, but all I heard was the laugh track, which is never a good sign.
- Switched at Birth (ABC Family): New. Emmett meets a girl that also likes motorcycles. John is not happy with his business getting tagged. Kathryn attempts to get Toby to stop mopping around the house. Last week’s episode, “The Shock of Being Seen,” replays right before.
