Prime Picks

Raising Hope (FOX): Season Premiere. The Chances meet Sabrina’s mother at her grandmother’s funeral. Jimmy finds out something that could cause problems for him and Sabrina. Tonight’s premiere is a fantastically funny return for the show. Loved meeting Sabrina’s mother and watching the Chances in her home.
Ben & Kate (FOX): New. Kate has been lying about where they live to get Maddie into a better school, but after being summoned to the school because of her daughter’s tardiness, she fears things will be found out. I enjoyed tonight’s episode just as much as the premiere. The opening scene is both uncomfortable and totally funny.

New Girl (FOX): New. Jess and Nick are examining their friendship. Schmidt tries to impress a Republican woman by pretending to be one of Mitt Romney’s sons.
The Mindy Project (FOX): New. Mindy is put in charge of hiring a new nurse, while Jeremy is tasked with firing an incompetent nurse. Again, was happy to see that this week’s episode maintains the quality of the premiere and I quite enjoyed it. And again, I loved the opening scene and its play on the narration. As of now, FOX Tuesdays is my favorite two-hour comedy block on TV, as it’s the only one where I will be watching all two hours of it. Do you agree?

Sons of Anarchy (FX): New. SAMCRO realizes they have a new enemy to deal with. Runs 64 minutes. Plays twice and again later. Last week’s episode replays between the two encores of tonight’s episode. What did you think of last week’s big death?

Solid Selections

Hart of Dixie (The CW): Season Premiere. Zoe is dealing with her feelings for George and Wade. Lemon is giving back her wedding gifts, while striving for a sense of independence.

Go On (NBC): New. Ryan starts to take care of himself. Steven and Ryan head out on the town. The group helps Lauren study for a real-estate exam. Runs 30 minutes.

Parenthood (NBC): New. Sarah meets Hank’s daughter and learns more about him. Zeek makes a new friend. Kristina is trying to get Maxx to branch out on things. This is easily the best show that practically nobody is watching.

Other Options

  • Dexter (Showtime): Repeat. This past Sunday night’s seventh season premiere episode, “Are You…?,” replays. Plays again later.
  • Homeland (Showtime): Repeat. This past Sunday night’s second season premiere episode, “The Smile,” replays. Plays again later.
  • NCIS (CBS): New. The team deals with psychiatric evaluations after the bombing while investigating the disappearance of an NCIS facilities manager.
  • NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS): New. A retired Marine’s body is found after a drone strike and the team has to investigate why he was there.
  • Vegas (CBS): New. Ralph is looking into a home invasion that ended in murder. Savino hopes to gain the trust of a the new count-room manager that has connections to some Chicago mobsters.

Totally agree about Parenthood. Great cast and writing. It’s able to balance the drama with comedy and lightness well while still being very believable.

    Balaji K, Good choices.

Devin, Yes, great cast. And, how fantastic has the addition of Ray Romano to the show been?
