Prime Picks

The Middle (ABC): Season Premiere. Frankie finds that school started a week ago, leaving Brick and Sue having to scramble to make up the missed school work.
The Goldbergs (ABC): Season Premiere. Beverly gets her hands on a mix tape that Adam put together for Dana and believes it was meant for her.

Modern Family (ABC): Season Premiere. Gloria decides to give Jay a bit of his own medicine after she realizes that he isn’t putting in much effort. Runs 31 minutes.
Black-ish (ABC): Series Premiere. Dre thinks he is getting a promotion at work. His son wants to convert to Judaism so he can have a bar mitzvah. Starts a minute after the hour and runs 29 minutes. This is one of the more promising new comedies this season, even though it has a few too many storylines that hit you over the head with the premise and one that seems over the top. I really like that ABC has decided to go with a full two hour block of family comedies. Really like Anthony Anderson and am looking forward to seeing where this one will go. Will you be watching tonight?

The Bridge (FX): New. Fausto’s only hope is Marco. Sonya sets out to decipher Eleanor’s ledger. Runs 63 minutes. Plays twice and again later.

Solid Selections

Penn & Teller: Fool Us (The CW): Season Finale. Magicians Shawn Farquhar, Manuel Martinez, Martin Daniels and Chris Dugdale attempt to fool Penn & Teller. A repeat episode follows.

Legends (TNT): New. Martin gets a new case after a Saudi prince is threatened in Los Angeles. Plays again later.

Franklin & Bash (TNT): New. The guys attempt to save a diner owned by a friend from being shut down. Runs 61 minutes. Plays again later.

Other Options

  • The Knick (Cinemax): Repeat. This past Friday’s episode, “Start Calling Me Dad,” replays.
  • Masters of Sex (Showtime): Repeat. This past Sunday’s episode, “One for the Money, Two for the Show,” replays.
  • Nashville (ABC): Season Premiere. Rayna has some choices to make. Juliette goes out for a role in a film.

Sports Notes

How do you choose which stations to include? Why is Bravo not included??!!

Nancy, the quick answer is because I don’t particular like and thus don’t watch much reality TV. Bravo does get mentioned from time to time in the News & Notes for some premieres/finales.

The slightly longer answer is that the daily picks posts provide what I believe to be the best bets for that night’s primetime offerings and for the most part that is going to be scripted fare. The Prime Picks are what I think is the best option for each hour of primetime, the Solid Selections the second best, and Other Options being stuff that is usually worth checking out or a I show I have seen ahead of time and have written a mini-review as to why it isn’t. Overall, if it is in one of those sections, I am probably watching it or would be watching it if I had infinite time to watch TV.

Let me know if you’ve got any other questions about the daily posts? What shows on Bravo do you watch?
