Prime Picks

Supergirl (CBS): Fall Finale. Kara goes up against her aunt who is trying to show her that her mother wasn’t who she thought. Cat gets her email hacked and has to deal with the fallout. Returns Monday, January 4th.

Jane the Virgin (The CW): Fall Finale. It’s Mateo’s first Christmas and Jane and Rafael disagree on how to celebrate the holiday. Rogelio isn’t sure about his new intern. Returns Monday, January 25th.

The Expanse (Syfy): Series Premiere. Based on a set of novels by James S. A. Corey that take place hundreds of years in the future when humans have colonized the solar system. Earth is controlled by The U.N and Mars is an independent military power. All the planets need the resources of the Asteroid Belt, where air and water are the most precious commodity. Tensions have been on the rise for decades, which leaves the Earth, Mars and the Belt about to go to war. We kick things off following a hard-boiled detective investigating the case of a missing woman, a rogue ship captain and others as they converge on what might just be the biggest conspiracy in history. Runs 63 minutes. Plays again later. The second episode plays tomorrow night and then it will continue to play on Tuesdays going forward starting next week. I like the little I’ve seen so far, as this episode has been online for a month now.

Solid Selections

Major Crimes (TNT): Repeat. Last week’s episode, “Thick as Thieves,” replays.

Major Crimes (TNT): New. The squad searches for the missing daughter of a professional baseball player. Plays again later.

NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS): Fall Finale. The team tries to figure out who is smuggling spies into the country. Kensi and Deeks try to include their mothers in their plans for Christmas. Starts a minute before the hour and runs 61 minutes. Returns Monday, January 4th.

Other Options

  • Childhood’s End (Syfy): Miniseries Premiere. This three part miniseries is based on the novel of the same name by Arthur C. Clarke about a seemingly peaceful invasion by an alien race that promises to end all suffering and usher humanity into a utopian society. Runs two hours. Plays again later, tomorrow before part two, and on Wednesday before a replay of part two leading up to the conclusion that night. I didn’t much care for the miniseries and you can find out more about why with my spoiler-free preview of Childhood’s End.
  • Homeland (Showtime): Repeat. Last night’s episode, “Our Man in Damascus,” replays. Plays again later.
  • Legends (TNT): New. Martin is getting Kate ready in Paris for a mission. Plays again later.
