Prime Picks

Luther (BBC America): New. S.5 Ep3. Runs 85 minutes.

City on a Hill (Showtime): Series Premiere. An FBI agent, played by Kevin Bacon (I Love Dick, The Following), a new Assistant District Attorney, played by Aldis Hodge (Underground, Leverage), the cops and criminals clash in early 1990s Boston where racism is rampant and crime is common. Runs 63 minutes. Plays again later two times. Saw this back at the ATX Television Festival and really liked it. Bacon and Hodge are really good and their characters are interesting. Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom, The Black Donnellys) is also really good as well. Executive produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Tom Fontana (Oz, Homicide: Life on the Streets). Will you be checking this one out tonight?

Perpetual Grace, LTD (Epix): New. Pa takes an ice cream truck. James deals with rattlesnakes. Felipe begins some training. Plays again later two times.

Other Options

  • American Princess (Lifetime): New. Amanda deals with some visitors. Brian has a crush. Maggie takes people on a pub crawl. Runs 63 minutes. Plays again later.
  • Big Little Lies (HBO): New. Gordon gets in trouble. Corey wants to go on a practice date with Jane. Celeste tells Mary Louise about things with Perry. Plays again later two times. Last week’s second season premiere episode, “What Have They Done?,” replays right before on HBO2.
  • Burden of Truth (The CW): New. Joanna is having trouble with shaping the narrative of the case.
  • The Chi (Showtime): Season Finale. Brandon has a big decision to make. Kevin debuts a new look. Ronnie confronts some demons. A big arrest is made. Plays again later two times.
  • Deep State (Epix): New. Harry, Leyla and Aïcha get into some trouble with their investigation. Plays again later two times.
  • Euphoria (HBO): Series Premiere. A group of teenagers dealing with drugs, friendship, love, sex and social media. Plays again later two times. Saw this back at the ATX Television Festival and while there are some really good performances, Zendaya especially, I had some problems with the show. Not just that if you are a parent that this should freak you out, but some of the stuff they show on screen just doesn’t seem right to me. Just because the actors are in their 20s, it feels wrong to be showing them nude on screen when they are playing teenagers. Yes, teens have sex and get naked, but you wouldn’t show actual teenagers like that on screen without getting into some real trouble. So, it seems weird to do it just because the actors are of age. What do you think about this kind of teen portrayals? Will you be checking this one out?
  • The Good Fight (CBS): Repeats. The first two episodes of the first season of the CBS All Access spinoff of The Good Wife replay. Two episodes will replay each Sunday night over the next few weeks.
  • Krypton (Syfy): Repeat. This past Wednesday night’s episode, “Light-Years From Home,” replays.
