How Did the Top 4 Do on American Idol Season 7?

Get American Idol Season 7 Perfomances at iTunesIt is once again time to watch the performances from the Top 4 on American Idol season seven, here at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday morning via the old DVR.

Tonight, the contestants are singing songs that are in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Each contestant will be singing two songs tonight and be judged after each, so Paula doesn’t get confused.

How Did the Performances of the Top 4 on American Idol Season 7 Rank?

  1. David Archuleta - He is last to go and is going with “Stand By Me” by Benny King. He is the best of the night through one song. Randy thinks it was “hot.” Paula likes that he is taking in the advice and using it to get better. Simon thinks it is the “best performance so far.” For his second song he is going with “Love Me Tender” by Elvis Presley. He is having the best night overall, as he has done very well with both of his songs tonight. Randy thinks it is “great.” Paula says that it his her “favorite” song of his so far. Simon thinks that he “crushed the competition tonight.”
  2. David Cook - He is first to go and for his first song he is going with “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran. He does not sound good. This is the worst I have heard him so far in the competition. Randy thought it was an “okay performance.” Paula liked it. Simon thought it was “good,” but not really his best. For his second song he is going with “Baba O’Riley” by The Who, or as people may no it these days, as the theme song for CSI: NY. It was way better than his first song. More like we have come to expect. Randy thinks it was “great.” Paula wants more David Cook. Simon says, “Welcome back David Cook.”
  3. Syesha Mercado - She is the second to take the stage and has chosen “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner. She is definitely having fun with it and sounds pretty good, but it is sort of Tina Turner light. Randy thinks she is “in the zone.” Paula thinks she made “magic.” Simon thinks it was “a bad shrieky version” of Tina Turner. For her second song she is going with “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cook. She is sounding really good and almost held that last note for quite some time. Randy didn’t love it as much as the first and thinks it “fell flat.” Paula thinks it was “beautiful.” Simon agrees with Paula.
  4. Jason Castro - He is going third and has picked “I Shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley. This is just a weird sounding version of this song and is serving to show why he should have been gone already. Randy thinks it is “really karaoke” and “nothing special.” Paula wasn’t “crazy about the performance.” Simon thinks it was “atrocious.” For his second he is going with “Mr. Tambourine Man” by Bob Dylan. If this isn’t his last week then there is something totally wrong going on here. Randy thinks he is “not in the zone.” Paula thinks it didn’t “blow her away,” but he does. Simon thinks he should start packing. Truer words have never been spoken.

Based solely on this week’s performances, I think Jason Castro should be exiting the show. Based on the contest up to now, I totally think Castro should be going home. As I said above, if it isn’t Castro after this doubly poor performance, then something has gone completely wrong.

How Did the Top 5 Do on American Idol Season 7?

Tonight, the contestants are singing Neil Diamond songs. Hopefully, it will be better than last week. While Andrew Lloyd Weber may have been the best mentor in quite some time on the show, he actually offered an opinion and advice, the performances were not all that good.

Each contestant will be singing two songs tonight, so this is either going to be twice as good or suck twice as bad. They will be judged after their second performance.

How Did the Performances of the Top 5 on American Idol Season 7 Rank?

  1. David Cook - He is coming out on stage second and is going with “I’m Alive” for his first song. This was a pretty good rock version of the song with him playing the electric guitar. For his second song he went with “All I Really Need Is You.” He is playing guitar. Much better than the first song, this is really good. Randy thought he “rocked the house” with his second song. Paula thinks she is “already looking at the American Idol.” Simon thought the first one was “okay,” but the second one was “brilliant.”
  2. David Archuleta - He is fourth to come out and sing and has chosen “Sweet Caroline” for his first performance. I think he has become really good at choosing songs. This is the best so far tonight. It is upbeat and the fan girls are going to love it. For his second song he went with “America.” This one is not sounding as good as the first to me at the beginning. It is picking it up in the second half of the song. Randy thinks he is “in the zone.” Paula thinks it was “the perfect song” for him to sing. Simon thought the second song was a great choice.
  3. Brooke White - She is third out on stage and has picked “I’m A Believer” for her first song. She is playing the guitar for this one. Not bad, but so far things aren’t all that great to me. Maybe they are rushing through to fast. For her second song she is singing “I Am I Said” while playing the piano. Better than the first song. She sounded pretty good. Randy thought it was a “nice job.” Paula liked this one better than the first. Simon “really, really hated the first song,” but the second one was a “million times better than the first one.”
  4. Syesha Mercado - She is last tonight and is going with “Hello Again” for her first song. It is a very sweet performance. It is weird not to hear the judges’ thoughts right after they sing, but we are getting a quick consolidation of their thoughts before the singers take the stage for the second time, even thought Paula thinks they have already sung twice. For her second song, and to close out the night, she went with “Thank The Lord For The Night Time.” Pretty good, at least she is having fun with it. Randy likes her in the second song. Paula liked her vulnerable side in the first song. Simon thinks she may be “in trouble tonight.”
  5. Jason Castro - He is taking the stage first and has chosen “Forever In Blue Jeans” for his first performance. It is just an average boring performance with him playing the guitar. For his second song he went with “September Morn.” This guy is just boring. I don’t understand why he is still in this competition. Randy thinks it was “just okay.” Paula thinks he played it “safe.” Simon thought both songs were “forgettable.”

Based solely on this week’s performances, I think Jason Castro should be exiting the show. Based on the contest up to now, I think Castro should be gone. But, it could be either of the ladies, with Syesha Mercado more likely, as Simon said. I thought Brooke White would be leaving last week, yet I just can’t see anyone else really going home after Castro having two bad weeks in a row.

How Did the Top 6 Do on American Idol Season 7?

Get American Idol Season 7 Perfomances at iTunesJust clicked up the performances from the Top 6 on American Idol season seven, here at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, on the old DVR.

Tonight, the contestants are singing Andrew Lloyd Weber songs. It should be interesting to see what the contestants have chosen to sing. Being faced with picking music from famous musicals will definitely be different than your average Idol week. Randy thinks tonight will be the “toughest of the season.”

How Did the Performances of the Top 6 on American Idol Season 7 Rank?

  1. David Cook – He is closing things out tonight and is sang “Music of the Night.” It was another great performance, even though it is far from his type of music. It shows he can really sing. Randy thought it was “amazing.” Paula thinks it was “fantastic.” Simon thought he “made the most of the song.” Right now, it should most definitely be the two Davids in the final show.
  2. David Archuleta – He took the stage fourth and chose “Think Of Me.” He is definitely the best of the night so far. He keeps getting better each week. Randy thinks it “was the bomb.” Paula thought it was “perfect.” Simon thinks it will get him through to next week, but didn’t really like it that much.
  3. Carly Smithson – She came out on stage fifth and went with “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which was her second choice, but the one that Andrew Lloyd Weber thought she should sing. This was definitely a good choice for her and finally something upbeat to get excited about. Randy thought it “was definitely good.” Paula “loved what she did.” Simon said it was one of his “favorites of the night.”
  4. Syesha Mercado – She is first to take the stage and has chosen “One Rock ‘N’ Roll Too Many.” She is going in and out of sounding good to me, at least it is more good than not. She does seem to be having fun with it. Randy thinks she could be “a huge Broadway star.” Paula thinks that she “brought the house down,” just like Andrew Lloyd Weber thought she could.
  5. Brooke White – She came out on stage third and chose “You Must Love Me.” That is the second time that she has had to stop and start over in the competition. After the reboot she all right, but she is going to need a lot of people to love her to stick around. Randy thinks that, “vocally it was rough.” Paula told her she shouldn’t stop and start again.
  6. Jason Castro – He took the stage second and went with “Memory.” He ended pretty well, but it didn’t work for me at all. Randy thought it was a “train-wreck.” Paula thinks it was a good song choice for him. Simon thought it felt like “the longest two-minutes” of his life. If this doesn’t turn out to be the worst of the night then something is wrong.

Based solely on this week’s performances, I think Jason Castro should be exiting the show. He will be in the bottom three with Brooke White and Syesha Mercado. Last week I chose the same bottom three, as the week before, but was only right about the two that were actually there that didn’t get voted out, those two being Brooke and Syesha. It will definitely be one of those two, but I think it will be Brooke’s week to leave.

How Did the Top 7 Do on American Idol Season 7?

by @ 5:16 am. Filed under Rankings, Top Lists

Get American Idol Season 7 Perfomances at iTunesJust got home from work and am about to click up the performances from the Top 7 on American Idol season seven, here at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday morning, on the DVR.

Tonight, the contestants are singing Mariah Carey songs. Contestants usually get in trouble when they choose a song made famous by a singer with a big voice, so it will be interesting to see what happens when they all have to do it. Randy wants to know who these contestants are as a singer.

How Did the Performances of the Top 7 on American Idol Season 7 Rank?

  1. David Cook - He is singing sixth and chose “Always Be My Baby.” That was an interesting take on the song and sounded really great. Randy thinks he is “ready to make an album” and gave him a standing ovation. Paula loved it. Simon thought it was a “breathe of fresh air” for the night and that he takes risks. Last week it didn’t work so much, but this week the risk totally paid off.
  2. David Archuleta - He is first up and is singing “When You Believe.” He has really come into his own and far from the forgetting lyrics and such. This was a really great performance. Randy told him that it “was the bomb baby.” Paula thinks Mariah would be very proud. Simon thought it set the “benchmark” for the night.
  3. Jason Castro – He is last to take the stage and is singing “I Don’t Want to Cry.” This was a good soft and understated performance. Randy thought it was “weird.” Paula thinks it was great. Simon agreed with Paula. Definitely agree with Simon that the guys won the night.
  4. Kristy Lee Cook - She is heading out on stage fifth and chose “Forever.” That was definitely her best. Randy thought she really “stepped up in the end.” Paula was “blown away.” Simon thought it was “whiny at times” and “wasn’t great.”
  5. Syesha Mercado - She is coming out on stage third and is singing “Vanishing.” She is doing pretty well for someone I thought would be going home last week. Might just be her best so far. Randy thought she “did a good job.” Paula thinks that it was a smart song choice and that it “was magical” for her. Simon thought it was “technically” good, but he thinks the song choice might not have been so good.
  6. Brooke White - She is the fourth singer of the night and went with “Hero.” She is playing the piano. I think she should be playing an instrument when she sings, as she seems to do a lot better than when she just sings. Randy thought it was good until the bridge, but that it was “pretty good.” Paula thinks she is “authentic.” Simon doesn’t thinks there was any meat to the performance.
  7. Carly Smithson - She is second to sing and is going with “Without You.” She is sounding all right, but it is not wowing me. Randy thinks the beginning was not quite right, but it got pretty good in the middle. Paula likes that she made it her own. Simon doesn’t think she pulled it off, but is quite capable of doing so.

Based solely on this week’s performances, I think Carly Smithson should be exiting the stage. She will be in the bottom three with Brooke White and Syesha Mercado. This is the same bottom three as I picked last week, which had two of them being correct. I think the person going home will be Carly Smithson.
