Ask the TVaholic: Cashmere Mafia, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Shark & More

by @ 8:14 pm. Filed under TV Questions Answered

Unfortunately, sometimes the answer is no. That was the case with this edition of Ask the TVaholic. There just isn’t much info out there about Sue Thomas F.B.Eye or the show you were hoping was coming back, but isn’t. If you’ve got a question about a favorite TV show or something else TV related, then send them on in, because I would really like to get some yeses out there.

Ask the TVaholic Questions

Nancy asked: First off, you’re a great asset to web-info. I think your service is amazing…so, thank you. Now, on to my question. I used to really like Sue Thomas, F.B.Eye, and because I teach sign language, there were several episodes I found useful in my classroom…however, it never came out on DVD and was curiously squashed after I think, five seasons. Do you have any info on this series and if it will 1)ever return and 2)if it will ever come out on DVD, or where I can find it on DVD.

Well, thanks for the kind words Nancy, but unfortunately I can’t find much info out for you. The series lasted three seasons and 57 episodes on the former PAX Network, now ION. None of the seasons have been officially released on DVD.

The last episode aired in May 2005, so I would doubt you’d see this on the air again, except maybe in reruns. As for a DVD, I was not able to find any info on if it will ever come out on DVD. There is a biographical DVD: Sue Thomas: Breaking the Sound Barrier.

Megan asked: Love your site but am requesting that instead of italicizing TV show names that you bold them or use another colored font. Italics doesn’t stand out enough for me and sometimes I like to skim through content. Any chance you could consider the change?

Well, again thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you like the site. Anything is possible. I am actually in the process of giving the site a design overhaul right now, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. The basic design hasn’t changed since I started the site almost three years ago. One of the things that will definitely change is the font size, as the present design can become quite small on larger screens.

Anyone else have any suggestions or things they would like to see or not see here at TVaholic.com?

Sandra asked: Can you tell me if Shark or Cashmere Maria will be back on this fall? I also have several other programs I’m interested in if you don’t mind my asking!

I don’t mind you asking at all. Ask away. As for Shark and Cashmere Mafia, neither of them will be returning for another season. The best you can do is Lipstick Jungle on NBC, which will be back for a second season this fall.

Cashmere Mafia - The Complete Series comes out on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008. Season two of Shark has not been released or announced as of this posting.

Lotus asked: Who can I write to with my demands that they keep it on the air? and Julie asked: Okay, Jason, who do we write to to make our voices heard about all of this nonsense? After all, WE are the consumer. Thanks!

Two comments left on an earlier post about Men in Trees being cancelled by ABC asked the questions above. Unfortunately, at this late date, there isn’t really anything that will bring the show back, but you can send your notes and letters of disappointment to:

ABC, Inc.
500 S. Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521-4551

There also was a Plant a Tree campaign to show support for the show.

Look for James Tupper to show up on Samantha Who? on ABC this season for a few episodes and Cynthia Stevenson will be playing Bob Saget’s wife in Surviving Surburbia on The CW this fall.

Neither season of Men in Trees has been released on DVD as of this posting.

Ask the TVaholic: She Spies, The Closer, Ally McBeal & More

by @ 8:13 pm. Filed under TV Questions Answered

Well, it has been a few weeks since the last Ask the TVaholic column, but we’re back with seven reader submitted questions. We’ve got questions about when shows will be released on DVD, someone searching for an elusive show title, how to download TV shows from Canada and more.

Mauricio asked: I just want to know if there is going to be released the second season of She Spies in DVD. Thank you very much.

I was not able to locate any info on if, or when, a season two set of She Spies will come out. Season one was released over two years ago on March 21st, 2006, so it has been quite a while. Maybe it didn’t sell well enough to manufacture the second season set. I did find two things: one that most likely won’t help you at all and the other will at least let you watch a handful of episodes from season two online.

Also, right now you can watch Natasha Henstridge on ABC’s Eli Stone, which is replaying its first season on Saturday nights and will be back for a second season this fall.

Krispin asked: I’m searching for the name of a TV series. One episode I remember the team of archaeologists/treasure hunters were in China with the terracotta army, there was a bomb puzzle or something. It was on TV in the 2000’s. In much the same genre as Relic Hunter and Indiana Jones. Any idea?

I am not sure, but I think you may be thinking of a show called Adventure Inc. I couldn’t find an episode summary that fit with your above description, but it is the only show that I can come up with that fits the rest of your criteria.

It lasted one season, from September 2002 to May 2003, in syndication and starred Michael Biehn (Hawaii, The Magnificent Seven) and Karen Cliche (Flash Gordon, Mutant X).

Krispin, please let me know in the comments if this is, or isn’t, the correct show.

Jennifer asked: Is there going to be a Men in Trees movie to wrap the show up?????

I seriously doubt it. The final episode that aired back on June 11th is, unfortunately, our last visit to Elmo, Alaska.

Brandi asked: I checked out the latest Fall schedule and I don’t see Las Vegas listed yet. Do you know if this show is returning?

Yes, I do know and the answer is, unfortunately, Las Vegas will not be returning for a sixth season. It was rumored that Danny and Delinda would make a cameo appearance in the new Knight Rider series this fall, as Las Vegas executive producer Scott Thompson is the Knight Rider showrunner. But, that rumor was put to rest at the resent TCA Press Tour, where Thompson mentioned that the idea had been contemplated, but then they decided that it didn’t really serve the fans of either show very well.

Peter asked: How can I download seasons premiere of The Closer?? I live in Toronto Canada.

I’m sure you mean legally, but since I don’t live in Canada, I don’t really know what the issues are regarding downloading TV shows from there. The Closer is available at iTunes , but again, I don’t know what shows you can get to on iTunes Canada. I believe though that if you can get a prepaid iTunes gift card in the U.S., then you can redeem it and create an account at the iTunes U.S. store. Then you can purchase shows until your card runs dry. I am not sure exactly how this works, but you may have better luck getting this question answered by the TV addict, as he lives in Toronto as well and downloads, legally of course, plenty of shows from iTunes.

Yvonne asked: What is the name of the character who portrays reporter Ricardo Ramos on The Closer?

Stephen Martines (Guiding Light, General Hospital) plays the reporter.

Rebecca asked: Hi TVaholic - I thought I was addicted but you have the market on that! I am SO glad I found your website - it rocks!! I have a question about a TV show that has never been released on DVD. Ally McBeal was my favorite show back in the day and I am crushed that they have not released it to DVD. Any idea why not? or if they ever will?

Well, thanks for the kind words Rebecca and in regards to your question, I do have an idea. The reason Ally McBeal hasn’t been released on DVD in the U.S., except for a small compilation of episodes, is because of music rights. These types of issues are dealt with better these days, but back when Ally was on and many other shows before that used music heavily, the idea of distributing a show on DVD didn’t even exist yet. So, songs weren’t licensed except for when the show aired, repeats and possibly syndication rights.

Now, if you lived practically anywhere but the U.S., you could get all five seasons on DVD, as they have been released in the U.K., France, Japan, Italy and many other countries. But, unless you have a multi-region DVD player or can figure out how to change the region on yours, those sets won’t play. Supposedly, they are working on clearing the music rights in the U.S., but there is no telling how long it will take.

What Happened to Gideon on Criminal Minds? And, More Questions Answered

by @ 12:27 am. Filed under TV Questions Answered

The New Adventures of Old Christine - Season Two on DVDIn this week’s Ask the TVaholic column, we had four questions come in. Readers wanted to know about a song that played during Army Wives, what that one show that played last summer was, why Mandy Patinkin left Criminal Minds, and if Old Christine will be back for another season.

Julia left a comment on the Army Wives second season premiere review asking: I would like to know the name of the song (female artist) that was played at the end of the first episode of the season when they were all sitting at the table with the Mom thinking of her daughter who was killed. I think a portion of the lyrics was “I can’t find the light so I think of you.” Beautiful music! I live in Charleston where the shows are filmed and wouldn’t miss an episode! Great actors and actresses!
I think you meant the second episode, but at any rate, I believe the song you are looking for is “I Will Think of You” by Laura Browne Sorenson. You can listen to a clip of it on her MySpace page.

TVargas, in a comment on the Ultimate Guide to the Summer TV Schedule, inquired: I was wondering about a summer show CBS had on last year. I can’t remember the name but it was about three friends just out of college and they go to New York for vacation and one of their friends ends up framing the other two for a bomb in a museum and then they find out while they are on the run from the law that their friend is a super secret agent…anyway do you know if that show will return? It was pretty good.
The show you are trying to remember is Traveler. It ran for eight episodes last summer on ABC. It was a lot of fun, but unfortunately they decided not to continue on with it. If you would like to find out what would have happened had it got the chance, you can read this story by the show’s executive producer and writer David DiGilio over at TV Guide. He was keeping a blog about the show and when it was cancelled he answered many fan questions about the show. Plus, he outlined what the major story arcs for future seasons would have been, including how it would have ended.

Adrian asked: What happened to Gideon on Criminal Minds? Why did he leave? I did not know that he left the show. Is he dead on the show?
Guess you didn’t watch this past season. Mandy Patinkin, who played Jason Gideon, quit. He didn’t show up for the first day of shooting. He said he left due to “creative differences.” It took the producers and rest of the cast by surprise. They had to do some serious scrambling to rewrite episodes that had already been written and included the Gideon character. They didn’t kill him off though, he filmed a couple of scenes and Gideon was last seen leaving a roadside store and driving off in the first episode of season three. You can read this story at TV Squad for more details.

Adrian also asked: Is the Adventures of Old Christine coming back next season?
The New Adventures of Old Christine will be back next season, but not on Monday nights. CBS will be using it to kickoff Wednesday nights with a new one-hour comedy block. It will lead off the night and be followed by the new Jay Mohr (Ghost Whisperer) vehicle Project Gary.

Who is Leaving Criminal Minds? & More of Your TV Questions Answered

by @ 1:59 am. Filed under TV Questions Answered

Download Lost Episodes at iTunesWelcome to another Ask the TVaholic column. This time around we have four questions. TVaholic readers recently sent three in and one has landed many web searchers here, but without being able to find the answer to: who is leaving Criminal Minds? Other questions involve The King of Queens, Lost and Nip/Tuck.

Michelle asked: Do you know when or if Nip/Tuck is returning in the fall or summer?
According to this May 18th, 2008 Hollywood Reporter story about the president and GM of FX Networks re-upping his contract, it looks like “Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck and Damages will return next year.” So, I would look for Nip/Tuck to be back in early 2009. The 100-day writers’ strike really put a crimp in FX’s production schedule.

Erwin asked: Who is the actress that plays Lila in the episode “Dougie Nights” from The King of Queens?
This question hit my inbox last Friday at about 1:30 p.m. my time here in Seattle. It was later when I got home from watching the terribly unfunny You Don’t Mess With the Zohan that I saw the message and did a quick search to see if I could find the answer. What I found was that the episode was about to air on TBS at 4:00 p.m. I looked at the clock and it was 3:45 p.m. So, I figured I could watch the episode and find out. Turns out, this is quite the question, considering the person playing Lila is only shown from behind. You never see her face. So, I figured just check the closing credits, but there is no Lila in the credits. Yet, there was a Megan in the credits, but there was no Megan in the episode. The actress credited as Megan in the episode is Iris Bahr. So, I did another search with that in mind and came across this episode summary at TV Guide and it says that Iris Bahr played Lila.

Joyce asked: Do you know if ABC will rebroadcast on TV the season finale of Lost which aired the end of May 2008?
They might, but you are probably going to have to wait a while. The season four finale of Lost isn’t likely to be replayed on TV until maybe the week or so before the premiere of season five, but that is some nine months away. The networks don’t rerun their serialized shows much anymore. Yet, you have some options other than waiting for something that may not happen or for the season four DVD set that doesn’t arrive until December 9th. You can watch all three parts of Lost’s fourth season finale at the ABC website via their video player, in both regular and HD. Actually, you can watch every episode from all four seasons in streaming HD quality video. You just need a reliable high-speed connection. Alternately, if you want a more portable format, you can download the episodes at iTunes .

A lot of Criminal Mind’s fans have been searching for the answer to: Who is Leaving Criminal Minds?
With the explosive ending to season three of Criminal Minds in the episode “Lo-Fi,” you would think that somebody was on their way out. That was a pretty big explosion. Many people have tried to do their own detective work, by pausing and replaying that final sequence. Trying to take clues from the makes and models of the black SUVs that each character is getting into, as some are GMC and some are Chevy. They are looking at license plates, car emblems, streetlights, etc. All to figure out whose SUV went boom.

First, this is not Lost, so I am not sure how useful any of that type of stuff is for figuring out whose SUV it was.

Second, I came across this statement by the show’s executive producer in a small TV Guide preview for the episode: “And in the explosive cliff-hanger, ‘one of our team is going to be severely injured, and [viewers will] have to wait all summer to find out who it was,’ says exec producer Ed Bernero. ‘If you care about these people, you cannot miss the last 30 seconds.’” And, I don’t read “severely injured” as dead, so it may just be that nobody is leaving Criminal Minds.
