Quick Synopsis: The one that got away comes back for a little while.
Review: Castle has become a favorite of mine. Can’t quite place it, but I look forward to coming home from work and watching this each Monday night there is a new episode. Normally, I have to DVR the episodes, as I work nights and have to leave about the time it starts. But, even with all the other Monday night shows that I usually record, this is the first thing I want to watch. So, it was most excellent when I got to see it ahead of time, yet now I don’t have it too look forward to after work tonight.
I do have a penchant for shows with a will they/won’t they and snappy dialogue, so maybe that is it. Or, it could be that the leads @NathanFillion and @Stana_Katic have become quite good in their roles at bringing us just that.
This episode was quite enjoyable for two reasons:
- Guest star @Alyssa_Milano was great as Castle’s former girlfriend and the one that got away. Being that she has been my TV crush since the days of Who’s the Boss?, it is always good to see her on TV. But, mostly it was introducing a character like this, which allowed us, and Beckett, to see another side of Castle, besides the persona we see most often now. It also gave us the second thing.
- Really liked how the episode played with the Beckett/Castle relationship and whether there is any chance of it moving into a romantic one. It was good to see how Beckett dealt with things and seeing that she might have a thing for him. It tied in well to his books with the dedications showing that he might have a thing for her. This is the most I recall this being touched on in an episode so far.
Another fun bit was the opening sequence of Castle having his daughter duck tape him to a chair, so he could see how a character would get out of that situation. These openings have become a staple of the show and very seldom disappoint.
