Review: How I Met Your Mother – 100th Episode

Show: How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
Episode: “Girls vs. Suits” (Season 5) – 100th Episode
Premiere Date: Monday, January 11th, 2010
Rating: 3.5 out of 4 Stars

Quick Synopsis: How I met your mother’s roommate while Barney danced and sung about suits.

Review: How I Met Your Mother has been having a bit of a down season. I mean, I even almost hated the “Last Cigarette Ever” episode that ended 2009. Can’t say that about any other episode or season of the show.

Yet, for the 100th episode of the show, they really brought it. We got on excellent episode, two solid storylines, three great guest stars used perfectly, and a big ol’ song and dance about suits.

What really made the How I Met Your Mother 100th Episode for me was:

  • Ted out on a date with guest star Rachel Bilson (The O.C.), who turns out to be the roommate of the mother. The better episodes this season have included Ted back in pursuit of finding the “mother.” Ted feeling a connection to Cindy, but it turns out he has more in common with her roommate.
  • Barney suiting down in an attempt to land the hot, no matter what the circumstance, new bartender, played by guest star @StacyKeibler. There was a lot of fun had here. How about Barney’s secret suit stash in the bar bathroom? His accidentally ruining that suit and taking it for emergency care, which was provided by Tim Gunn (Project Runway). Barney using the death and cremation of that suit to finally land the girl.
  • The whole suit storyline giving us the fabulous “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit” musical number performed by @ActuallyNPH and the rest of the cast, along with whole lot of background dancers. It was very well done. I figure those the DVRed the episode went back and re-watched that part a few times.

Some other bits that were fun included Marshall not willing to acknowledge the hotness of the bartender and Robin trying to show that it was “circumstantial hotness.”

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode and hope that we get more like this the rest of the season.

What did you think of the 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother? Did you like the dance number? What did you think about the guest stars? Let me know in the comments.

i was under the impression that this was a musical episode, and we didn’t even see the musical number until the last 10 mins or so of the show. i was disappointed, but not nearly as much as with the smoking ep. (ugh. so random…) i liked that we FINALLY got some headway on the “mother” issue…and got to see Barney in something besides suits (and besides seeing him without a shirt at all…aka: when he’s been with a woman)…we got so much promotional word going around about the ep, and yet i felt it didn’t live up to the hype. it was a good ep, though…

Well, I love pretty much every HIMYM episode, but I especially loved this one! I like that we’re back on track to meeting the mother. I thought for a moment we HAD met the mother with Rachel, but it seemed too easy… I loved Barney’s suit number! Gotta love NPH! I hadn’t heard all the hype, just that it was the 100th episode, so I wasn’t disappointed at all, loved it!
