It is Tuesday and another allocation of TV shows new on DVD has arrived. This week get a little pre-hysterical with Dinosaurs, watch Red Green and his Possum Lodge buddies give us something to laugh at along with many other TV comedies like I Love Lucy and 3rd Rock from the Sun. Dinosaurs – The Complete First and Second Seasons
This was a very creative and funny sitcom. It was about a family of dinosaurs that lived just like we do today except 60 million years ago. If you don’t believe me, then check out their B.C. calendar hanging in kitchen. It counts down the days. The family consisted of the father or “not the mama,†mother, three children and the grandmother. It was very Honeymooners meets Roseanne in comedy and tone. The show featured puppeteer work and animatronics that were state of the art for their time and was based on an idea by Jim Henson. The DVD set includes 29 episodes on four discs. Five season one and 24 season two shows. The show lasted another full season and part of a fourth. Special features include featurettes about the making of the show and the sketches that started the whole thing off.
The Red Green Show – 1997 Season
This show from is a lot of fun. Comedy from a man’s perspective, see what men do when the women are not around. The show revolved around the members of the Possum Lodge headed up by Red Green. Red also had a handyman show where just about anything could be created with enough duct tape and a little ingenuity. I catch airings of it on the local PBS station in my area from time to time. It is always funny. The show ran for 15 seasons with the 1997 shows being the seventh. This was the year in which the Man’s Prayer: “I’m a man, but I can change if I have to, I guess” came into being. The DVD set includes all 17 episodes on three discs and is the first full season of the show to be released. If you a looking for a good laugh then get this show and remember: “We’re all in this together.â€
