Tonight, NBC has the Summer Olympics 2008 Opening Ceremony.

Over on cable, Animal Planet has Puppy Games 2008 and CMT has the first season finale of Mabe in America followed by a Gone Country reunion special.

Prime Picks

Samantha Who? (ABC): Repeat. Samantha is overwhelmed with guilt when she tries to cover up an accident she has in her father’s car, but then remembers an eerily similar event from her past regarding her mother, in “The Car.”

Numb3rs (CBS): Repeat. A former subcontractor to the FBI shoots someone in the office and takes others hostage, which leaves the team few options in resolving the problem, in “Chinese Box” from this past season.

Swingtown (CBS): New. Susan and Bruce are trying to reconnect up at the cabin. Jane and Roger decide to see a therapist.

Solid Selections

Summer Olympics 2008 (NBC): Opening Ceremony. Runs four and a half hours and starts a half hour before normal primetime hours. NBC has set up a website where you can find out what events are playing on TV when and what channel, as they will have coverage throughout the next 17 days on the whole family of NBC Universal network and cable outlets.

Cable Choices

Bill Engvall’s Here’s Your Sign Awards (CMT): Repeat. Bill gives away a $10,000 prize for the funniest home video.

Monk (USA): New. Monk is inspired to give getting reinstated a try, but has to pass a department physical among other obstacles to do so.

Psych (USA): New. Shawn’s uncle says he has a map to buried treasure, which leads Shawn, Gus and Henry on a dangerous outing to try and find it. Steven Weber (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Wings) guest-stars.

Other Options

  • The Cleaner (A&E): New Repeat. Tuesday’s episode, “Chaos Theory,” replays. Plays again later. If you haven’t watched yet, you should give this show a shot. It is very good.
  • Mad Men (A&E AMC): New Repeat. Sunday’s episode, “Flight 1,” replays.
