Quick Synopsis: Dexter does something spontaneous.
Long Synopsis: Dexter has picked out his next victim to take off the street, but something goes wrong. Dexter does something that he has never done before, something spontaneous. Also, Det. Batista gets promoted and has to make a choice about Debra’s involvement in the latest big case.
Review: Dexter over its first two seasons has been one of the best shows on television. After watching the first episode of season three, it looks like it will continue to be.
Each season they give Dexter something new to deal with. This season it is his acting on impulse to do something and him not knowing what to do with that fact and the repercussions of what it is that happens.
Michael C. Hall’s portrayal of Dexter Morgan continues to be one of the most absorbing performances on television. I’ve said it before, but the ability to take such a character and make it so you kind of root for him, is absolutely amazing.
The addition of Jimmy Smits, as tough assistant district attorney, is great as well. His character’s brother has been killed and the squad is investigating it. He also, sort of, starts to befriend Dexter, which should be interesting as the season continues, since Dexter has never really had a lot of friends.
Overall, Dexter is your best bet on Sunday nights. If you don’t have Showtime, then you need to find someone that does. It’s shows like Dexter that has jettisoned Showtime past HBO in the rankings of the premium cable networks.
The competition in the time period on the network side is Desperate Housewives on ABC, Cold Case on CBS, Easy Money on The CW and Sunday Night Football on NBC. Its cable competitor is True Blood on HBO.
Dexter premieres tonight, Sunday, September 28th on Showtime.
