Prime Picks

Raising Hope (FOX): New. Everyone is trying to figure a way to get Maw Maw out of the old folks facility that social services has put her in. Jimmy begins to worry about getting older.
Ben & Kate (FOX): New. Ben throws a birthday party for Kate and invites an old friend of her’s from high school. Ben finds out that his ex is moving into his dream place with her new husband.

Emily Owens, M.D. (The CW): Series Premiere. Emily is among a group of first year interns at Denver Memorial Hospital, where she hopes to start anew, but finds things to be very much like high school. Mamie Gummer is very watchable and the rest of the cast is solid, but there is nothing new here. Or, even an interesting version of things we have. It’s very much Grey’s Anatomy lite with an internal monologue voiceover. Emily’s neurocies are sometimes comic, but overall the voiceover is like a big look at me, look at me. Every single situation that gets setup in this first episode has that been there, seen that already feeling. I’ve seen the second episode and it didn’t change my opinion much from the tonight’s episode. Overall, it’s not terrible, but it’s easily missable. I will give it a couple more episodes, but so far it isn’t looking like a keeper. It only makes the Prime Picks tonight because nothing else new is on in the time period.

Sons of Anarchy (FX): New. Jax has a new proposal for the club that may be dangerous. Runs 64 minutes. Plays twice and again later.

Solid Selections

Hart of Dixie (The CW): New. Zoe finds that an error has been made in her alumni magazine and invites the writer to come to town and see what she really does. George starts dating again.

Awkward. (MTV): Repeats. The final two episodes of season two replay in this time period capping off an all day marathon of the first two seasons.

Covert Affairs (USA Network): Fall Premiere. Augie, Joan and Arthur call in a favor to help get Annie out of a Russian prison. Plays again later. This show has really stepped things up this season and tonight’s episode continues that progression and sets up what looks to be an interesting rest of season three.

Other Options

  • Homeland (Showtime): Repeat. This past Sunday night’s episode, “State of Independence,” replays.
  • Underemployed (MTV): Series Premiere. Five friends try to come to terms with where they are in their lives a year after graduating college. Runs 64 minutes. Plays twice and again later.

Sports Note

  • TBS has Game 3 of the MLB Playoffs – AL Champisonship Series.

Late Night

  • Dexter (Showtime): Repeat. This past Sunday night’s episode, “Buck the System,” replays.
  • Flashpoint (ION): Season Premiere. Team One is trying to track down an armed man before he finds his ex-wife.
