Tonight on the Tube: Men in Trees, Take Home Chef and Stargate SG-1

Las Vegas: Season ThreeTomorrow will be the one-year anniversary of daily picks and recommendations for what is worth watching each night on the tube. So today is the 365th straight Tonight on the Tube post without interruption. I posted a couple of others before the streak began on Friday, Sept. 16th, 2005. Things have changed a bit over the year but each day you will find recommendations broken down into different categories. Prime Picks are my picks for the best bet for each hour of primetime chosen from the now five major Networks. Solid Selections are the second choice for each hour of primetime. Cable Choices are the prime picks for shows you will find on cable TV. With Other Options you will find an alphabetical listing of shows either on Cable TV or the Networks that might also be of interest. Lastly you will find listings of TV show marathons, sporting events and occasionally late night offerings worth a look. I hope you find it helpful. I find writing them gives me a chance to put together my TV viewing and TiVo-ing plan for the night.

Prime Picks

Men in Trees (ABC): Repeat of Series Premiere. Looks to be sort of a female version of Northern Exposure. This time instead of a doctor, a relationship expert who finds out that her fiancé has been cheating on her decides to head up to a small Alaska town to write her next book. There eccentric characters abound, most of who are men. Did you already catch this after Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday? If so, what did you think?

Men in Trees (ABC): New. This is the normal timeslot for the show. Tonight Marin begins to get used to small town life while being stalked by a raccoon. Also she gets help from Sara canceling her wedding back in New York.

Numb3rs (CBS): Repeat. Last season’s finale, “Hot Shot,” replays where Charlie is having some problems with unresolved feelings towards his mother and the team investigates a rapist who has morphed into a serial killer. The new season begins next Friday.

Solid Selections

Dateline NBC (NBC): New. Get a hidden camera look inside the filming of an infomercial for a product that probably shouldn’t be sold.

Las Vegas (NBC): Repeat. Last season’s finale episode, “Father of the Bride,” replays where Delinda is about to get married and Ed is danger do to his previous career. The new season begins on Oct. 20th.

Law & Order (NBC): Repeat. This will be the new home for this show. The 17th season kicks off next Friday night with a new Detective partner for Det. Green played Milena Govich late of the cancelled Conviction.

Cable Choices

Take Home Chef (TLC): New. Morgan cooks for a woman whose boyfriend is a chef. I wonder what he is cooking.
Take Home Chef (TLC): New. As usual the dessert really sounds good, tonight a creamy chocolate fondue with fresh fruit.

Stargate SG-1 (Sci Fi): New. The Odyssey is attacked and boarded. It plays again after Stargate Atlantis.

Stargate Atlantis (Sci Fi): New. Trapped on a world where the Wraith has abandoned a failed experiment the team starts to turn on each other. Plays again later.

Other Options

  • Monk (USA): Repeat. This was a pretty good episode. When Julie’s coach is killed her mother takes over the coaching duties with Monk as the assistant coach.

Sports Notes

  • ESPN has PGA Golf and later Friday Night Baseball with the Boston Red Sox at the New York Yankees.
  • ESPN2 has College Football with Kansas at Toledo.

Late Night

  • MI-5 (A&E): Season Premiere. This is a really good show. It seems like it has been a while since any new episodes have been shown over here. This is a British show known as Spooks over there. Tonight as the agents mourn one of their own a new terrorist group sets off a bomb in a public square and threatens to continue doing so every 10 hours until their leader is let out of prison.

TV Show Marathons

A&E plays 15 straight CSI: Miami episodes today and when finished you will find the first episode of the new season of MI-5 mentioned above.
